Ok so im one of these people who\'s been paying a rediculous amounts for mobile (orange) so im looking out for something up to date and, main usage is phone and text but im sure if i could access the internet etc i prob would!

I roughly use 500 text and 400 mins a month never over that anyway,

The thing that has stumped me is how much data transfer im likely to use(mb?)

any ideas on how i can work that out, is that gonna be how much i download or do i use it just browsing?

With o2 ur only allowed 500mb a month and that\'s for everything browsing n downloading. For me that\'s not enough I use that up within two weeks but then I\'m constantly on the net, t-mobile offer a no limit Internet which is really good an very fast aswell

It\'s only really downloading things like YouTube clips and music that eats up your data usage - and that\'s only if you do it on the mobile nextwork, if you\'ve got something like an iPhone and you do it on the wifi you\'re fine.

I was also really struggling to understand how much I needed. In the end I\'ve got an iPhone through Vodafone with 600 mins talktime (but free to other Vodafone mobiles) and unlimted texts and data for £40 per month on an 18 month contract.

There\'s actually an iPhone app which shows you your usage and I\'ve only used 1mb of data so far this month. That\'s a lot of Facebook, emails etc.

Edit: I\'ve just looked at the usage settings on my iPhone as those data figures looked very low. It says that I\'ve sent 17.7mb of data and recieved 76.3mb - but I have no idea over what period! I think my app might be wrong as I\'ve got unlimited data - just as well if I can\'t work out how much I\'m using! :Giggle

depends how much you want to spend.

The way  i see it. Vodaphone or O2 are the way to go. If you\'ve got bundles of cash go iphone, otherwise blackberry

Well as it happens I work for Orange (all be it in the business side). For your usage you\'ll be best on one for the Dolphin plans (£25 for 500 mins, Unltd texts. 500MB data) but as an existing customer you will be due a loyalty bonus so call 150 free from your phone and ask about upgrading, then listen to what they say, explain you have been offer something better from another provider and ask to speak to retentions, the retentions team will offer you the best possible deal on Orange.

For phones have a think about what you want/need from a new phone. Touch screens are good for somethings but battery life is never as good as a standard phone. As an iPhone user myself I cannot recommend them enough but I know that they are not for all, but for surfing etc they are excellent.

as a side issue, Orange and T-mobile have just merged to form one new company but are staying as 2 seperate brands, and as a plus point customers are going to be able fully use both networks in the 1st quater of next year (as staff we are testing now and it works really well) so you will get the best network coverage of any mobile provider.

My iPhone is six month old and if I charge it overnight it last all day unless I spend hours playing games.

My other half has the iPhone 4 and it is really good - much better camera and screen resolution. His battery is also fine but he\'s only had it a month. I\'m considering getting him one of the cases with the extended life battery for Christmas - they\'re about £50 and look ok.
