hi there i\'m just woundering if i wanna take out the engine from my rx7 do i have to remove the transmission? or i can just get the engine out without doing anything to the tranmission?

does the engine wiring harness need to come out? as i read few thread some said it needs to come out some say it doesnt?

Gearbox can stay in, some people find it easier to take the engine out with the box.  Entirly your preference.  Wiring harness comes out with the engine, disconnect from the ECU and push back through into the engine bay.

you might wanna use a bit of wood to prop up the gearbox. You\'ll see when you take it all out

As stated above, the trans bolts are hard to remove sometimes.  I dropped mine from the bottom, just raised the car after removal and I had a nice package sitting on the floor.  The harness does need to be removed from the ECU.  Unless you take the top half of the motor off then you can unplug everything and let it stay in the car.  Removing the wire harness is fairly easy to do compared to the rest.  Good luck.

ok thx for the info guys! i will give it a try see weather i can get the harness into the engine bay,  and yes may try to leave the gear box untouched thx!

There are a few plugs that go to the gear box off the same loom too, just need unplugging. Only noticed them with the engine part way out of the engine bay !

It\'s best to remove the gearbox first, then the engine. You are far less likely to damage the pilot bearing this way, aswell making it much more straightforward lifting the engine out.

If you have not dealt with the pull type clutch before its worth watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPCi4RpGQCU
