OK so out of interest (given my slight bunged up bit ducting thingy ATM) what temps do folks normally see (those with power FC\'s etc) & what are peoples thoughts on what temps are prefereable (OK yes colder is better) but from a over 70 is dangerous/bad kinda thing?
Si (just looking for thoughts as i say i know colder is better...)

The stock setup is poo, dunno what you see with it.

Personally, if air temp sees 50 degrees then some thing is very wrong.

If you do a search I posted some figures a while ago, as I had an aftermarket (SPA) guage fitted.

My car must be very wrong! I see about 70C  before the water injection comes on,100+ without it

Maybe if the car has a FMIC and is seeing more than 50 deg. then yes I would agree that something is wrong.

But with the stupid little stock mount located where it is, it is no surprise that we temps that high.

OK i\'ve got a dead vacuum cleaner hear i\'m going to butcher the hosing off to get me a cold air feed going in theory....will see how it goes....But in the mean time, ie driving to garage etc, & as i say obviously cooler is better, but what should or shouldn\'t i be doing at what temps given i dont wana be risking anything at all are we talking off boost & keeping below 70c cunning &/or other theories?

Now,  about these Temps,
When are you taking the figures you are quoting?
In traffic on a hot day my intake temp goes up to around 60. But then the sensor is right above the engine. And with out the car moving the intercooler is doing nothing no matter how big or cold FMIC is.   Once i get moving it drops very quickly, about 1degree a second.  On the really hot days it was sitting at 34 degrees at 70mph which i thought was good considering the temp in the car was 32 degrees.  Now it has cooled down a bit it will sit at about 31 or 32 degrees and the temp in the car is about 27.  The weather forcast has been quoting 24 dgs or 28 on the hot days.

Didnt have the apexi on the stock i/c so i dont know what the temps were.

erm yesterday ;) lol while driving standing & otherwise as i say currently the scoop  thing which goes to the stock intercooler is stuck behind the top bit of the front bumper so not getting any cold air hence high temps was a mission keeping it around 70 but guna have a play with getting it some nice air & see how it goes tomorrow.............

If you are saying the Air temp is sitting @ 70oC while you are driving then i would say there is deffo a prob somewhere, if i drive on the motorway @ say 70 (thankyou officer;) ) then the air intake temp is around 26/ 27oC?

In traffic and what not i think its around 38oC cant remember as with 4 options on the PFC i use :

1- Water temp
2-Boost
3-Revs
4-Speed

I use 4 options aswell because i cant see it with the full 8 as they are too small.
I use:
Water temp
Boost
Inj Cycle
air temp.

I dont use revs and speed cos it reads slightly different to the dash ones and you cant look at them while driving.   The inj cycle is good cos you can see if your to near a 100%,  Water...... enough said,  Air temp cos there is no other way to see how hot it is and i wont thrash the cash the car if its too hot.  Even though it is at 10psi on the road.  I will wait until i start moving and get some air through the I/C.

I had apexi ecu on my auto with stock intercooler and normal temps were late 30\'s low 40\'s on baking hot day in stand still traffic once it reached 72 but normally heta soak was around high 50s low 60s in average London traffic but whenever doing the normal 40 - 40mph stuff around low 40s. I never canned it above 55 deg.
front mount a different ball game completely.
