Here\'s a useful and interesting site for us.

http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-Internet-History-Request.jsp

It\'s the VOSA website which enables us to check all mot certificates, fail sheets and advisories for a car which has been issued with a computised mot cert ( most cars for the last 5 years)

You just need to put in either the reg and mot cert number or the V5 document number.

This is really usefull in checking out a car you are thinking of buying or one you wish to restore.
My black project car C784 SPA, for example, came to me with no paperwork bar the V5.
I have put in the reg and V5 document number and it gave me the info below.

( I don\'t have any problems with anyone seeing the long list of fail items as the car has since been stripped and is presently being rebuilt) It\'s interesting to see the items listed as \'fail items\' are things that I\'ve already dealt with or identified myself!

I can\'t go into detail but you have no idea how important that info is to me.

Thanks

John
I started with nothing and I have most of it left

It certainly helps show the past condition of a car.

I bought a series 3 in May from a garage in Bournemouth. It was sold with a fresh mot. I was only given the new cert and the V5 supp. and I set off to drive it home 200 odd miles.
1st time I put the brakes on, I nearly ended up in the hedge due to front brake imbalance. I had to nurse the car back home because of this.

The car had been stood for a while causing them to stick and the brakes have now freed off by themselves so are now ok.

Running the car through the VOSA check however shows that it had failed its mot on 15 items before it was repaired and passed and there was an advisory notice stating:

\'Front brakes only just met the front brake imbalance requirements. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair. (3.7.A.2d)

I can only presume the fail sheet and the advisory went in the bin before I picked the car up. Shows how some people / traders are economical with the truth!!

The car is now great and I\'m over the moon with it but I\'d rather people were straight with me.

Just checked mine and the mileage was 51,000 more than it says on my speedo :reallymad Im pretty sure it\'s a mistake going by the condition of certain parts but who knows, i could have a speedo from a low mileage car or could it have been clocked? :flamed
No advisories though, but not been on the road for two years!

G8 find Ian,you even got me checking mine.
