Hi everyone,

I just need to ask this, its a bit random, but will affect my FC appearance quite a bit.

I am thinking of cutting a slot in the bonnet when I fit my T88 so that the top part/maybe a bit of pipework might be running out the top of the bonnet.

What issue might this cause with the MOT comes round, I know that I need arches to cover any wheels sticking out, but a turbo out the bonnet wouldn\'t be as high as the popup lights or scoop, can someone tell me if it will cause an issue :)

the only thing i can think of relating to this is the sva test.
kit cars have the popper locks that stick up from the car about 1cm where the soft roof attaches to the body.
as long as there is a radius of 2.5mm then is ok.
(yes i been watching \'a car is born\' on quest lol)

i guess the only thing u can compare with on the bonnet is a jag cat on the front of theirs.
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

If it\'s likely to cause damage to a pedestrian, then it may be an issue.
More to the point, why do you wnt it sticking out? It\'ll look sh!te. Cover it. Bulge/blister the bonent if you have to.

I\'m not sure, but I thought there was something about having any part of the engine pertruding from the bonnet without any cover was considered dangerous. I may be talking out of my backside (it isn\'t unknown)!

Loud? Hell yes! :D

It\'s to do with pointy bodywork that could damage pedestrians IIRC. I\'d imagine boiling hot turbo housings may fall under the same thing, but it\'d be tester\'s discretion etc.

Its been infected with an american V8, but thats a T88 compressor housing, which kinda gave me the idea, it runs an external filter as well, but I would run mine to a cold air box in the engine bay, there isn\'t much space for the turbo so I would probably have to move it forward a bit, its going to have a custom manifold and downpipe anyhow, but im still getting idea together of how best to fit the T88, as I don\'t know if I want an TMIC, FMIC, Flat mount, V mount or C mount etc

There has been a fairly famous rotary that had something similar to what you describe, Mitch

Not sure if it was still road-legal though :3Confused

Check hot rod magazines and sites. It is a problem lots of rod builders will have had to get past for an MOT. I thought having the engine/parts of same \'open\' was fine as long as no moving parts capable of trapping clothing/fingers etc were exposed. Don\'t most of the rodders put all-enveloping covers (chrome naturally) over the front belts etc for steering/alternator etc.?

Quite why nobody is bothered about searing flesh on the red hot exhaust pipes is a bit beyond me but I\'m a simple soul.

Tim (rxmotors) cut a hole in his bonnet on the purple FB to clear pipework and it stayed like it for a while so I\'m guessing he didn\'t get MOT grief. Might be worth asking him anyway.
