panel gaps

After fitting the rear veilside d1 bumper a few weeks ago with my 99spec lights i noticed there was at least several milimeters gap between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the lights. Now before you guys start tellin me that fibreglass never fits perfect, 7-8mm is quite a gap!
 
We`ve probobly spent a few weekends now perfecting the gaps. I`ve already used silicone sealer on the side of the rear bumper where it meets the rear quarter panel. Im now thinking of using it again underneath the lights.  
 
Anyone else suffer from abnormal panel gaps?
