Hey,I\'ve recently recieved my new twin alt pulley and I know there\'s a belt from a mini 1979?? that you can use but does anyone have any idea if it that\'s the correct belt to use? Cheers

bumpstart

you use the small belt if you DONT have the alt twin pulley
it goes purely around the waterpump and the main pulley without a tensioner but restores the drive lost when the air pump and its belt is deleted
,, eliminating the quick belt death and squeal of a single belt

i rate it a better solution than twin belts which are hard to maintain tension on both belts and often take other out when they let go

the little belt in mention is a 10A 550 ( metric )
in oz its a mitsu sigma and also a washing machine belt
( dunlop / hoover 38528-403 )

the trick to putting it on is the same as a bicycle chain
- put it half on and turn over the main pulley slowly

PS

the correct belts for the FC -
11A0800 Waterpump/Fan & Alt.
11A0950 Waterpump/Fan & A.P.
13A0980 AC Comp. & Idler ( w/A.C. )
13A1065 P.S. & Idler

i have the same pulley on my fc but on a fd alt.  the size i found was 813.  the belt that halford showed for my car was a 79-something..but that was way too short.

Thanks bumpstart but I\'ve tried the un tensioned belt approach and it wouldn\'t fit and eventually snapped as we tried to fit it. So I\'m going to try the twin alt approach :)

To be honest, its well worth buying the genuine belts from Mazda... nothing else I\'ve used has lasted as long as those and in terms of pricing they are not too bad either.

Last belts I got were from Clive (MRP) and they\'ve lasted well - he will also make sure the belts come from the same batch - buying from Halfords I\'ve twice ended up with belts slightly different in size - I gave up, got my refund and went to someone who knows :)

Halfrauds ones are something like HB800A as a part number. They\'ve all been fine for me (ironic comment - but the snapped ones were caused by a wonky pulley, not the belt) and I\'ve had about 4/5 of them!
