Well decided to have a play on the rollers today, basically to see if the little bit of tuning i had learned from mostly reading actually works....im hoping to get a proper wideband next month so wanted a controlled condition to have a mess till then.

So stuck it on the roller, not expecting alot as its still on the basemap.

Start running up on the rollers and it runs lean, holds about 11.9-12afr in boost to high rpm, so back off.

Go to PIM voltage and changed to 110% for anything above 3v on the map sensor.

Do a quick pull to see where we stand and its 10.3-10.5, so super rich but gives us something to play with.

Do another full run, still on nearly stock boost(11psi) and does 326bhp@7300rpm and 287lb, but after looking at the graph power was still rising, only by maybe other 5bhp though as the torque is starting to drop off

So next run i try a bit more boost, from 0.75 to 0.81 on the power fc....try a run to find when the second turbo kicks in the wideband goes nuts and for the rest of the day we cant fix it, seems to pull a bit harder at first getting 299lb but then the boost started to drop off when the second turbo kicks in, meaning we only make 290bhp

Since i knew i only get 3 runs to perfect it this is my last run, because of this me being rather daft didnt realise how much fuel this messing about with things would use.....now got my fuel light on

So fiddle with the boost again to try and equal things out a bit.

Do the run, still cant tell what the high rpm fuelling is like but we guessed low 10s....so plenty more power to be made when i get a wideband.

Pulls cleanly till 6350rpm and then get a big misfire because the fuelpump has picked some air....meaning that im out of fuel haha.

Looking at the graph for the run, its much better, the torque hasnt dropped off and is level right until the misfire.

On that run it hit 270lb at4700rpm and held it flat to 6350rpm, the reason it was lower as i was hitting 0.1bar less on the first turbo but then holding the boost all the way.

At 6350 it made 334bhp with the power still sharply rising(as you can imagine with the torque being flat.

Looking at my other graphs at 7500rpm it would be making about 250lb which would be 357bhp....not sure if i can make it to that before i run out of injector though.....thats running potentially low 10 afrs aswell so with a low 11afr it is possible with even more power.

This is of course all hipothetical mind, but shows the engine has potential even at 0.8bar with a rubbish map.

Im sure if i had a proper mapping session with it(with a working wideband) then could get alot of power out of this.

What sort of mods have you done on the car ???

turbotoaster

hks filters, xs power intercooler, japspeed decat and trust exhaust, power fc and big streetport.

Stock downpipe, complete stock fueling and ignition

gonzodave

Cool are the jap speed decats ok ??? my mate is a jap speed distributer and sells all there stuff.
I want to get a similar power figure so i now no roughly what i need, thats if i can find a power fc for a 97 fd :-)

turbotoaster

if you get someone to map the car you should be able to hit my figures easily.

My power figures are lower than what they should be because the map is still to rich and im hardly running any boost.

I havent had any problems with the decat, fitted up easily enough, big weight saving over a stock cat.(got fitting pics if you want to see them) You dont need a cat for mot by the way

If your gonna fit a xs power cooler make you get proper ducting, i didnt bother as i have a massive intercooler at home ill fit eventually.

Like alot of these parts check all over ebay, dont just buy from the first seller as you will find  the same product cheaper if you spend time looking.

Id set your goal for 330bhp, thats a resonable number and should be safe.

You can aim for 360bhp, but i havent tested yet whether i can reach that without either putting bigger injectors in or upping the fuel pressure, ill let you know when i get a wideband

gonzodave

Wellkeep posting with further progress, it good to know people that already done it

FDAsh

Similar setup to mine, except for HKS downpipe and some fuelling mods. Mine\'s on 380bhp on stock twins at 0.85bar.

Pip had to fit 10s all round IIRC as there were some top end issues with it flowing so well.

turbotoaster

i was thinking that aswell, i will probably go to egv 10s when i get to the point of maxing my injectors out.

Im guessing you ran 1680cc?

I think as long as i have enough power on twins to break an 11s qtr ill be happy until i get my new turbo

FDAsh

Yeah, 1680s. Though the duty rarely goes past 50% :Giggle

Not sure what 1/4 mine would do now, I know it did an 11.92 on its old engine and turbos at 320bhp, so if you\'re getting 360+ and you\'re half decent down the strip then I reckon it\'s achievable on the twins.

:burnout

turbotoaster

wow, didnt know you broke 11s in it, did you do that in britain, doesnt that make you the fastest qtr mile on twins in europe?

FDAsh

I didn\'t, maybe I got that wrong then :rollin

The previous owner dragged her, he showed me the slips but kept them, it was 2 years ago. 1/4s aren\'t my thing tbh.

turbotoaster

i was gonna say, if you were running drag slicks you can get it down to 1.5 60ft which would save 0.6 sec off my time, then you just need to be 0.3 of a sec for the rest of it and since i didnt have any boost in fourth i think it might be possible with 320bhp.

Gonna by a set of slicks later this year if my job interview goes well on monday as ive just been made redundant :(

Grant Monkhouse

have got some interesting figures from your dyno tests. will be getting mine dyno\'d when i come back from holiday and we can compare results.
when are you upgrading your fuel system?

turbotoaster

isnt yours going to be on a single turbo though?

my wideband will arrive this week, ill rewire the pump, then see how far i can go with the stock system.

remember my power figures were running very rich, so ill gain some power by pulling a bit of the fueling which in turn means i have more room to play with on the injectors when turning the boost up.

380bhp maybe possible on stock system but im not sure yet, ill tune it the best i can, stick it back on the rollers and see what number comes up

changing injectors will be further in the future as it involves getting a rail, fpr etc

no i am still on stock twins at the moment, non-sequential though. all fuelling etc is ready for the single, but that isnt get purchased for a while yet
