Is there a way of modifying the standard (import) FD seat subframe to compensate for larger people?

I took the passenger seat out on Sunday to see if there was any way of getting it to go all the way back but to no avail :(
It looks like the subframe could go back further - the rachet mechanism extends beyond the rearward limit but there\'s something stopping it.
Has anyone modified their subframes to allow for extra movement or shall I go on a hunt for some UK subframes? (which I understand have more movement??)

A couple of people have done it by drilling out the rivits (which cause the problem) in the rails and reinforcing with some welding. You\'ll really need rear bins though to get it back much further.

Personally, it\'s on my todo list but I\'m going to get some decent engineers to sort it out for me. I don\'t like the sound of the above in the event of a crash.
ric (rexy has gone now all I have left is NFSU2 :( )

Big Stu

Rob,

Could you let me know how you get on with this? I should be ordering my Rex soon and will definetly have to play with the seat. Im 6\'5" and 18 stone. Some of the guys at JAE were kind enough to let me sit in their FD\'s so i know i can fit but maybe not
too comfortable for a long Drive.

Yeah sure stu,

Won\'t be this weekend, probably next. I\'ll try and get a spare subframe from rx motors to butcher before I start hacking mine to bits :)

Getting mine done so i dont have to wear knee pads to stop bruising while steering http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_2_108.gif\' border=0> here\'s description i was given by Henning off FDUK who has done it already:
QuoteUnbolt rails from car (seats still attached)

    Remove rails from seats

Drill out all the rivets, steel bungs and dents from rails (about 8
per rail, 2 rails per seat)

Take rail apart, clean all the cage bearings and get rid of all the
drill shavings

    Weld extra seams onto rails

Reassmeble rail (takes about 6 tries to get the bearings in the
right place)

    Bolt rails back to seat

    Bolt seats back into car

Repeat for passenger seat? I did the passenger seat first to see if
I could do it and if it would work.
:god

Wont be able to offer any tips as i\'m still tormenting them to get various bits done but suffice to say my technical expertese wont be required lol

thanks Si,

sadly I noticed the \'W\' word in the description there. My welding is usually followed by lovingly placing \'welded\' piece in the bin and/or putting out a series of small fires.

nothing could go wrong :rollin
