yeah, from 1981 onwards

is there any way to tell if it\'s an actual LSD by looking at it?

Mark (mpk490p) might be able to tell you, he imported one.

no difference externally the easiest way would be to jack the rear end up and turn one of the wheels, if the other wheel goes in the same direction lsd if it turns the oppersite way non lsd

I\'ve read somewhere 81-83 GS almost (rear disk, no drums) and GSL/GSL-SE for 84/85.
There\'s a USA car in UK?

Two US cars in British Isles I think....
A Series 2 in Ireland and a Series 1 in England.

My car has vented discs on rear axle  looking at the manual i can only see drums where did they come from or were they retro fitted?

David Nock (RIP)

The Series 1 had drums Gary. Most manuals have an addendum in the back for the later Series 2. Our Series 3\'s aren\'t really covered in any manuals, except Keith (Myatt) found one specifically for the S3 last week.

You have to use the S2 information and go from there (basically the same stuff but different size pads and discs between S2 and S3)

Mazda MX5 limited slip diffs fit as well don\'t they?

mpk490p

the MX5 diff will although MX5 owners want them too so a) you have to find a good one and b) pay top money, i know someone selling a 4.77 short pinion rear diff gear too ;)
i went with the clutch type (GSL-SE) as they take drag racing better then a torsion (MX5) one

Ian65

would a MX5 diff be good for fast road use or is there any benefit in paying to import a GSL diff ( for road use only)

mpk490p

torsions are \'ment\' to be better for road / track use, (i believe fc\'s and fd\'s have them) i do try and do both track and drag racing and thoughts were drag racing is much harder on the diff gearboxx clutch etc so i went with the clutch type
