Hi, Just a quick question. Can series 5 ecu be used on a series 4 engine and vice verse?? Just ask this question because I recently bought what I was told is a series 5 engine. But at a closer inspection it has the series 4 intercooler but has a few series 5 parts. I confused to which engine block it is. Im running it on a chipped N380 ecu and I know this was design for series 5? Anyone know? Also does anyone know how to tell if its jap engine or a euro one with just the engine to look at??

Thanks
Thomas

I\'m guessing this is a turbo car ?

Most obvious difference from the outside - Series 4 car had a different water pump layout - with a metal neck.  There are some small differences on the Lower Inlet Manifold, fuel rails and the exhaust manifold has an additional actuator for the twin scroll turbo design.  Most of this stuff got tweaked for the S5 engines.

Jap engine didn\'t have an idle adjuster on the BAC valve and is missing some other emissions related stuff IIRC.

It is a turbo sorry forgot to mention. Ye I know about the metal water pump thing and I have the plastic one but it could of been changed. Must check the other things ya mention. I did read somewhere that when they were converting over to the series 5 engine they used some series 4 parts until everything was changed. Cheers
