Looking into making my own braided brake lines. Does anyone know the sizes of the hoses and unions? My cars stored 30 minutes away so can\'t measure at the moment and would like to order parts for the weekend.

Thanks

What style of fittings are you looking to use?

Just go careful when doing this...screwing up when putting fittings together for water or oil may cause problems...but getting the brakes wrong wont help you stop!!

I\'ve no idea to be honest. I\'m not a very mechanical minded person. I do however have friends who are. So we thought we could save some cash and make nice lines. What are the standard?  Do you have any ideas?

We use goodridge for all of our lines: brake, fuel, oil, even water.  Personally they are one of the best.

I can save money on the fittings...so pass this saving to you and will make up the lines as part of that price.  Send me the lines...I can copy the lines for you, and at least then you know they are going to be done right.  It will still be cheaper than you buying the fittings yourself.

Thing is I can\'t get to the car until Saturday and I was hoping to be able to fit lines then....
Where are you based?

The pic in the middle is for the body to axle hose

A7Rxy! Thanks a lot mate. Don\'t happen to know the thickness of the line do you? I\'ve looked everywhere :-(

I\'m sure that the code on the middle pic hose say what spec they are.

If you can give me the thread sizes that would be perfect.  The lines will be AN03

But either way Ross...Im only about 60 miles from you near Bath

That\'s absolutely right. I\'d forget about trying to fabricate your own brakelines, pay the money and either buy some ready made or take Atomic up on his offer and get some professionally made up.
What price on your life?

When you stand on the brakes and the car doesn\'t stop it\'ll be too late to wish you\'d bought the proper brake lines.

I wouldn\'t entertain the idea of making my own.

Just my view on it!!

Atomic, how much would a replacement braided set be? I\'m very interested too!

Thanks

If Ross, or anyone else, can send down the full set I will price up a group buy on these.

They will be using genuine Goodridge parts and identical to the original. You will also get a choice between stainless and plated.

Just to add this will be a sliding scale from 1 to as many as it takes...but dont worry if there are only a few people interested in this :)

Ross....Don\'t attempt to make your own flexes. The internal pressures under emergency braking are massive. I think you will need the correct Goodridge swaging tool to stand any chance at all and if there was to be a problem on the road, heaven forbid, the insurance company would be very sniffy indeed about it if you hadn\'t done a professional job.

It\'s not like the metal lines which can be done with a flaring tool as a common DIY project.

It\'s getting the fitting to grip the flex solidly under pressure that I see as the problem.
