A friend did something nasty to me a couple weeks ago, and allowed me to drive his RX8, which had made me look at my Subaru in a different light.

Would like to find out more about the RX7, as I have always liked the shape (3rd generation with 4 seats).
Would I be able to live with a RX7 as a (nearly) practical car, bearing in mind my other car is a westfield.
MPG is not an issue as I go to work by train.

Would want one with 2+2 seats - but do the rear seats fold forward ie could you fit a mountain bike in it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

marco

you can fit a bike in, although you have to take wheels off and it may depend on how long your stem is so you can get your bars under the strut brace. the rear seats are tiny though, and the rear bins are useful for keeping bike spares in!

Timmy

The seats were put there for tax reasons in japan i\'ve heard they\'re not for real people. If you want a real 4 seater rx is has to be an 8.

cyman

yeah rear seats arent really much cop. you can forget the one behind the driver no one will fit unless the driver is 4 foot nothing you can get an adult and a child in the passenger side but if either of them are taller than 5 foot 7 they wont exactley be comfy  :)

Disagree i drove from devon to santapod with a 6ft 4" guy in the back as he was more comfy in the back then the front:Thumbs-up

your having a larf surely im just over 6\'3" and had to test out the rear seat this weekend and i could just get in but not really move and a mate who is 5 8" tried to sit in the front at the same time and he could get in but his legs were squashed against the dash.  lol

This is me in the back of Ada\'s RX....

I\'m 5\'11" and it wasn\'t especially comfy, but certainly not awful. His has a half cage and a battery behind the seat in it too, so it\'s amazing what\'s possible. The trick is to get your feet aligned properly, then everything else sorta clicks into place and it\'s OK :rollin. I wouldn\'t want to go from Devon to the Pod though ! Gyles was a competition cyclist and he regularly ported his bike around in his FD, it\'s surprising what you can get in one.

yep, 4 guys in the rex no problems

Thank you very much for your replies, quite happy to accept an occasional squashed 4 seater.

Think I need to find a local pub meet in Essex area, to take a serious look, and understand exactly what I want interms of spec. Will also trawl this site for information.

I am embarassed to ask next question, and assume the answer is no, but is there a removeable tow ball that can be fitted.

1990_fc3s_t2

Im not sure, but if you can i would have thought the rear bumper would have to be removed?

I\'m a triathlete and before I got something more sensible for carting all the junk around it I took the RX7 to all my triathlons. I found the best way was to keep the rear seats as they were, take both the wheels off and then sit the bike on the seats.

The cranks would rotate round to a good position and the front forks would go in one of the seats. Then I just chucked the wheels in the boot.

The question isn\'t \'Can I live with an RX7?\' the question really is \'Can I live WITHOUT an RX7?\'

where are you in essex?

I have had in excess of 10 rx7\'s (stopped counting) and everyone has been modified and as i have got older, i have said i would never have one as a road car as they are too noisy, juicy, uncomfortable and I may aswell have an M3 and get much better economy (which i have), i have a kit with a rotary engine in it so still get my rotary fix on track but with half the weight of an FD so thought i had no space in my life for a road going rx7

Until..............

I have just bought a 1998 stock FD with 40k on it and it is the best FD i have every driven,  it is very quiet, silky smooth and very fast for a road car.  IMHO a modified rx7 has too many compromises for road use, the exhaust is too loud, suspension too bumpy etc etc, but now owning a stock low mileage example, i can see what a nice car they would have been when new.   The increase usable power on the road by modyfying just doesnt seem worth it to me.  Also, being low mileage all the bushes and spherical bearings are excellent and the car is as tight as a drum which makes a huge difference compared to most RX7s

I am generally playing with rotaries most weekends of somesort or another, various kit cars, rx8\'s and RX7\'s (all rotary powered) usually with people from this club so if you are about and want to pop along, feel free.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!
