Strange starting / idle problem

Rexy is starting to play up recently, last week or so theres been a strange starting problem.

Turn key, engine starts perfect, catches fine etc. Revs to about 1500 - 2000rpm. About 5 seconds later the revs drop to about 1000 - its always done that so never been a problem. HOWEVER, now (especially when cold) the needle drops below 1000rpm and the car starts to shake / hunt as if the engine isn\'t turning fast enough to maintain rotation.

1) Don\'t think it\'s a compression issue as got high 7\'s just before xmas.

2) I do have a hole in my exhaust but I don\'t think could be a cause

I\'ve had a look at TPS issues on the search button - could this be it?

I have a similar problem sometimes as well, and last time it happened, I flooded the car. I also haven\'t found out what was the problem. I changed plugs and oil recently and it still does it sometimes. I have no compression issue as well.

Check the vac hose that runs towards the MAP sensor for a crack or maybe it has come off.

right guys, changed spark plugs this weekend which has solved the struggling idle problem.

But, however, we have a NEW problem.....

After starting, she runs fine, but when sitting idling its like she randomly misfires. You get a regular noise from the exhaust but every few seconds the note changes as though she\'s coughing. Not regular either, it\'s random timing. Was looking at the rev needle and boost gauge and they hardly move when this is happening so I dont think its a seal problem.

However, as soon as she is under the slightest load she seems fine again?

Anything this could likely be?

mines similar when its cold sound and feels like its missfiring. i was just going to replace the plugs soon anyway. its fine when its warm just when cold
