Hi all,

Just wondering which radiator sealer stuff is ok for a rotary as I know quite a few are no nos due to them blocking up the water passages in the block!

Basically my coolent buzzer has just gone off again, not sure how much water has gone but I need to rule out the radiator before I get the engine rebuilt if its waterseals.

This has only started happening since I changed the rad over, I can\'t see any obvious leaks from either hose - the engine bay needs a clean so its slightly dusty meaning I can see leaks lol

Which sealers are ok for me to put into the system and leave?

I know there are lots of rad sealers but I need to make sure its rotary friendly first :rollin

the metal bit are really small and a few people on here have used it before with success in sealing the rad.

My personal experience of rad seals would lead me to tentatively suggest that you DON\'T USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES :Nono!

This is the state of the cooling system on my daily MR2 after some barbarian tried to bodge it with rad seal....repeatedly. Seriously, find the leak and fix it properly, it may be aggravating but believe me, it\'ll be less aggravating than digging gunge like this out of metres of coolant system :yes

Big difference between using it once and replacing the bloomin coolant in it\'s entirity!

I used the stuff Mazda Rotary Parts sells back in March last year- it\'s held ever since, including an absolute beasting at the \'Ring where my water temps hit 120!
Still runs sweetly, I\'m just waiting on my new rad getting delivered, but I\'ll post pictures if there is a real mess.

I personally don\'t want to use any, it might just be the sensor bung on the top of the rad though, so I will re-seal that, but it might just be water seal failure :rollin awesome

try k seal! it doesnt make a gunk like that, its just a liquid with small bits of copper in it... it goes in to cracks and forms a copper seal... thats all... mrp sell and recomend it!

I just read this on the k-seal website:

K-SEAL®                          OR SEAL-UP?                         What                          is the difference between Seal-Up and K-Seal®?

Seal-Up is the original cooling system formula and is                          based on Sodium Silicate technology. This is very                          effective at sealing leaks throughout the cooling system                          but it has one drawback. If Seal-Up mixes with                          antifreeze and is heated then a reaction can occur                          leading to coagulation of the compounds in the cooling                          system and potentially causing blockages. As a result it                          is essential that the system is drained before and after                          treatment (as per the instructions on the product). It                          is not necessary to use any special flushing products                          but some users like to run water through the system                          after draining it.

K-Seal® is a newer formula which has proved to be as                          effective as Seal-Up but has the added advantage of                          being compatible with all known types of antifreeze. As                          a result the product can be added directly to the                          cooling system without any special preparation. It can                          even be used as a preventative additive where no                          problems are present.

We continue to stock both products because Seal-Up still                          has an excellent reputation and loyal customer base with                          the trade. K-Seal® is now by far our most successful                          product and has become popular with the general public,                          trade and many enthusiasts clubs.

If you have to try K-seal - get it from GSF, it\'s the cheapest place I\'ve seen it.

However, as Mr Nik says - I wouldn\'t touch it. If you think it\'s your rad, replace the rad.
Get a pressure tester, and pressurise the system. Then you\'ll find the leak.

Yeah im going to check the rad over, might just be a slightly leaking drain plug maybe, I will check over the drain plugs on the rad and engine, the hoses are both dry but my engine doesn\'t sound like a tractor which is good, its just annoying as the rad seems fine :(

MaLicE

more than one rotary builder on here has said k seal is good and fine to use... hayward being one of them iirc

Jesus Mr Da Greek - what the hell????  Did the engine fail, or did it still live even with all that crap in it???  That\'s amazing....

I can imagine it was a hoot digging all that crap out of the 47,241 miles of an MR2\'s cooling system...
