jesus, what distance does he hit 202mph, thats very fast!

s3th....i wont sort out gearing or anything yet until the car is dynod, i need to work out exactly where my maximum power will be then i can calculate the tyre and diff so that at 200mph im making maximum hp, i know ill need an auto diff, but need to know about my rpm range before anything else is worked out

S3TH

Good luck mate.

Dibs on the interior when/if you pull it out :D....... no seriously, if you do I\'ll have most of it for another project so get in touch.

Aubec

Loving this project mate, a proper target to hit rather than just dyno numbers!

Good luck! Be sure to tell us when you\'re eventually off for the run, would be an awesome day out. Could turn it into a big MRC V-max day?

Turbotoaster, could you inform me with your source for the electrical bits (solenoid, pressure switch etc) in the water injection setup?
I have been following this thread on rx7club.com as well and will be going this route as well. I just don\'t know where to source these things.

thx

Wow, a very ambitious project - hats off to you.

I\'d have thought Aero is going to be a major factor here - what aero mods have you got planned?

batman

good luck toaster interesting project

You might find some useful info here, it\'s a thread about a standard bodied FD which achieved 196mph in a standing mile. Although it\'s not running a rotary engine maybe some info re the aero, gear ratios and levels of power required might give you some ideas.

Speedworks

there is a movie on youtube off a Swedish guy going 300km/h+ in an FD (rotary power)

I think he was running a Kai 51R turbo and bolt ons, different rear dif ratio etc

L18M

wow.. a very good read.
Like my email i do really wish you good luck with this! i dont know how far £10k will go but if you putting lots of research and calculations into thin and doing some of your own fabrications and own work then i dont see why it cant be done :)

did you consider going tripple rotor? or too much costs involved?
why street ports over PP or even bridge ports?

thanks for posting this up, will keep an eye out for further posts :)

I thought something looked familiar about this thread... I spot my old Dyno graph!!

That\'s the safe map on there - I\'ve got serious cooling and ignition breakdown issues when we pushed it higher (need to do something about having a std mount intercooler to bring temps down, and then have some fun with ignitors and coil packs...). We\'ve had it push more, but then time and again the ignition breakdown reared it\'s ugly head... Shame really as was starting to push more and more out of the twins but then I had to be stupid and propose meaning my money is now her money and the Rex is sidelined for a little... :(

Still, good luck! And I\'d say you\'re in pretty good hands with it. Surprised he never tried to persuade you to go for a Lysholm twin screw over the turbo though..

well that would depend on whether redline would let me, i know that magazines run a tight budget and hiring it out for day isnt gonna be cheap, i suppose if everyone paid a certain fee to cover the extra safety people and hiring of the place he wouldnt mind, dont know if he would let you in the magazine though, ill have to ask him when i get closer to completition

Im not 100% sure yet, if i follow his design exactly im thinking of getting the nozzle and solenoid from a nitrous supplier, i have a couple that im gonna contact for the best price, the pressure switch i can get from a usa w/i supplier ive bought from before. If i just use a jet like a traditional w/i kit i can get them from aquamist as they are only £5 last time i bought one, ill need to work out how big though as im only using 15-30psi of pressure instead of 150psi electric pump

no need to worry about aero, the standard rx7 is very aerodynamic, people have problems when they start putting splitters and wings on them, the car will be very low though to increase downforce, id never put anything on it unless i had a wind tunnel, and extra downforce is normally at the cost of drag

never even considered 20b for a moment to be honest, its not needed, the car doesnt have to have 650bhp+ everyday so you would be paying for street ability more than anything else.

I didnt go bridge because i decided to do this challenge after the engine had been built or pp because of cost

he doesnt know about the plans for the car yet, he still thinks im going for 500bhp, i probably should ring him and let him know haha, im sure he will poop a brick and call me daft, still if i do it, alot of the praise will go to him for a good engine.

we spoke about your engine and i mentioned your trying to get past a standard sized cooler with water injection which is a bad idea as not only do you have heat issues but your then blowing your spark out with water, we both agreed that if you switch to a front mount you would be loads better and also move your w/i between the turbo and cooler for maximum cooling and hopefully will help with not blowing your spark out

very interesting thread mate and good luck with the challenge. I`ve got an old high octane dvd from nz filmed way back in `99. Option put together the fastest cars from Japan to try and break top speed record. One rx7 had a peripheral port 13b with t51r, 680hp. Even in the rain it did 327kph (203mph) coming second best to a 1000+hp skyline which did 213mph.

shaunwil

Only speed read the thread and it looks like fun.

Your water injection setup is interesting, probably worth chatting to Viking War Hammer on Rx7club.com . Also an interesting engine setup :

ive got that one aswell, he did that speed in the rain with a 2mile stretch, slow start and longer braking distance was required so i think on a cold dry day i should be ok.

the car was also only semi-pp not a full pp, look for the option video of the same event as it gives much more info:evillaugh

he also does 710bhp at 2bar so that was maxing it out

sounds interesting and its great to see that you are attempting this and fair play to you.....the price for the t76...does that include shipping and taxes?.......I can supply these so gimme a shout when you are ready to order and ill be happy to see if i can help with the cost....i tried to get some more info i was sent on this turbo as its one of MP latest ones but ive blooming lost it now!!!.....what trim turbine wheel are you going for?.........

also i think your gonna struggle with the 1.00a/r size of the rear housing!.....I believe those turbos are compatible with the new tial rear housings...( again these i can get)...but they are pricey!

You might also struggle with the type of porting....I would have at least gone half bridge...considering your aims.....and the turbo you plan on using....that turbo is gonna spool late and if the engine hasn\'t been made to be a high revving one (ie rotors, porting, uprated seals etc)....you\'ll probably have a pretty narrow power band particularly with that size rear housing....but hey i could be and hope that i am wrong.

oh and i would chanGe the clutch now before the engine goes in....save yourself some money....it just aint gonna cut it dude!

Either way fair play to you.....and all the best.. i just think your budget will be a bit short

also speak to ant at sterte garage...they got 184mph on a bridged motor running a t51
