Due to a bodged job of taking a locking wheel nut off by our local Mazda dealer I need to change one of the rear wheel studs on my girlfriends RX8. I think I already know the answer to this but is it possible to remove and reinstall the hub component that the studs sit in without removing the whole rear knuckle from the car?

Cheers for any help

Edit: just realised this is my first post (I thought I\'d posted up a new member thread a few months ago). Sorry I\'m asking for help already!!

First of all Steve welcome to Mazdarotaryclub and no worries about this question or any other,

Sorry to tell you that the rear upright has to be removed and the wheel stud flange will have to be drawn out through the wheel bearing, quite simply there is not enough room between the flange and the upright to push the stud out.

If this was caused by a dealer the first course of action must be to ask the dealer to change this free of charge !

Hope this helps
All the best Clive

Cheers for the reply.  I\'ll remove the knuckle and take it to a garage with a decent press.  My girlfriends making a proper complaint to the garage as they also destroyed the alloy (they had to drill it out to get the wheel off once they\'d destroyed the locking wheel nut with a chisel).  It\'s Border cars in Dumfries in case anyone\'s thinking of going there.
