Basically my car is running at 333 @ flywheel, the boost reading on my blitz boost controller reads in HKPA? i have read about this and apparently 1.0 HKPA is equal to 1.0 bar, but as my car has been tuned a few times i\'m peaking at 1.4 HKPA which is 21 psi ?? What can the stock twin turbo\'s actually take? safely?........i would look at my boost guage for a more accurate reading but at top boost i can only look ahead, tried it once almost crashed !!

I wouldnt of thought your turbos will last long @ 1.4bar (assuming there stock twins). Most people dont run much more than a bar on stock twins

mikeyrx7

Well assuming 1.4 HKPA is 1.4 bar thats what i mean ???? and if that is correct then ........... oh ...., as i do drive it quite hard, the tuner said everything was perfect.

nuki

my car was overboosting on changeover to 13psi for the past 4 month. checked the shaft play after i got idle smoke and guess what. about 5mm shaft play in and out. turbos are dead.

I tell you what it means, bye bye turbos if its reading correctly that 20.3 psi 1.3 bar boost, normally 1 bar cooks the standard turbos, unless you are running a set of bnr or knight sport uprated turbos then get that sorted asap, what tuner is saying that ok must be mad or have a secret we should all wanna know about

just done some investigating and basically HKPA is a bull sh*t measurement, my dyno print out says 12.7 psi which is 88 kpa, sorted !!!!!!

What boost controller you using! mine is a blitz and does kpa before boost and bar when on boost ?? im glad you found out that it is not seriously over boosting !! :burnout

you should buy my greddy turbo warning gauge! its in the forsale atm that will read your boost and you can press the recall button and it will show the peak value that way you wont crash watching it!

Ummm, that boost on stock twins will kill them. Fast. If that was what you\'re running, it\'d be proof that it\'s pointless too, as mine made more than that at 0.85 bar :D

At 0.85 I made 343FWHP, at 0.93ish I made 362. Then they died.

mikeyrx7

its a blitz boost controller, it does have a peak pressure option on it but because it using HKPA its useless to me, it claims i do 1.40 HKPA (which aprently is 1.4 bar which is rubbish)

100 kpa = 1 bar = 14.5 psi

HKPa     = ??????????????????????????? ( apparently 1 hkpa = 1 bar? errh ?)

it is weird though because when you compare the two on boost they are the same\'ish, but i do not look at the boost guage on full boost ...........has any one had this HKPA nonscence???????

mikeyrx7

hi !!

HKPA does equal to bar , i have proof as my car hit 1.57 bar on stock twins and glimpst at the boost guage, i have turned it down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have new tyres now too , it grips so much better now, what power are people running on stock twins ?? mine is 333 @ fly and 285 @ wheels

SiH

Yeah, they can hit that, but they\'ll be pumping out superheated air which will probably be no more efficeint (possibly less) than say, at a bar, and massively increasing the risk of det.
They\'ll also last about 2 minutes...

I ran 362bhp on 99 spec twins. They lasted about 8 onths at that power.

It\'s a stupid, non-standard unit of pressure that has no place in civilised society!! the \'H\' means hundred = 1HkPa = 100kPa = 1bar

Also bear in mind that for most people boost gauges read in *pressure unit* gauge - you can tell as when you are off throttle the gauge reads a negative pressure. Mine boosts to 0.88barg which in absolute pressure (gauge + atmospheric pressure) = 1.88bara. If you like confusing people then boggle them with news that you boost to almost 2bar!!!

*apologies for the arse-iness of this post, but im an engineer and im forever giving people abuse for not differentiating between gauge and absolute pressure!! :D

interesting post, so i was running at 1.57 hkpa the other day and it was mental, which is 1.57 bar, yeah thats bad, ive sorted it now, ive adjusted it so i can only peak at a 1 bar, still pretty fast though, don\'t you just love the secound turbo transition its such an adrenaline rush, ive owned a FD3s since june and have not got bored yet. The winter should be interesting, as it is my daily commute !!
