Hey again all.

After a bit of a break from working on the FC it\'s now time to go back to it...

Something I would quite like to do it remove the power steering system. However not being particularly mechanically minded (but being able to follow instructions for things like that quite well) is there a guide anywhere telling me how to remove the power steering system? (So I can have non-assisted steering, I don\'t care if I break it taking it out)

I did use the search, but after an hour of wading through threads I couldn\'t find anything.. maybe I went right past it? If I did sorry!!!

Thanks in advance :)

Why did you want to remove it?

BinoX

Well, part of the reason is that almost all of the pipework including the cooler needs replacing because it\'s all corroded/buggered and I don\'t really want to pay for the parts, and I\'m hoping removal will work out cheaper

The other reason is that a lot of cars have a lot more "feel" through the steering wheel with the power steering removed and I kinda like that. And I like the heavier feeling to the steering. yeah I know, I\'m weird... Although I\'ve never driven an FC with working power steering, but until I bought one I\'d never seen one up close either (that\'s my excuse anyway)

Are there any reasons NOT to remove the power steering except for slightly easier steering?

the hat

find a non pas rack and track rodarms/ends and your laughing then just remove the old rack and all assiciated pipework and pump etc

I know its been said above but please use a Gen 2 EGI non power rack as it\'s dangerous to simply disconnect every thing as the rack is designed to be driven by fluid and not forced around manually,

Remember my old EGI as a bit heavy parking but great as soon as you had any sort of forward motion,

Hope this helps,
All the best Clive

Thanks for the advice guys :)

I\'ll sort out which is gunna be the cheapest option for me to do over the coming weeks and try and get it all sorted :)

a DE powered power steering rack is the way to go, less turns lock to lock than a non power steering rack, it is simple to do. BUT to do the job proper you need to strip the power steering rack and remove a few washers, very easy job , and costs feck all,,    and BIG weight loss

BinoX

Hey flatout. Sounds a little complicated... Have you got any instructions on how to do that?

there is a write up on rx7club.com somewhere about de-powering your steering rack but from what i remember you have to have the right ratio rack to start with.
Il have a look:mmmm

If you wanna get rid of the PS pump cause its using up too much space, swap it for the electric saxo pump mod :)

BinoX

Ah cool, Thanks for the link 1990_fc3s_t2, reading up on it now :D

@m1tch not really looking to save space. Mostly looking for feel and saving money :)  But space and weight saving is always a bonus ;)
