QuoteIs the small number of wires that\'s trailing off to the right going to a boost controller of gauge of some kind ?

Would that be this?

There is some sort of oblong \'Apexi\' controller mounted in the dash.

A different question.

When lifting the carpet to access the ECU I see both the carpet and floor in the passenger side are wet.

Is the common, and is there a likely source/fix?

That makes sense - probably the same on that M1tch has - AVC-R I think it\'s called.  I was just suspicious of the splice on one of the injector wires (far left ecu connector) - but probably done as an RPM sense.

As for the water - it\'s most likely coming in from the top of the A pillar - there is a rubber strip that goes around the front edge of the door jam, and it\'s hollow.  Water is supposed to collect in the \'cup\' at the top of the door jam and flow through the rubber and out at the bottom of the door, but if it\'s like others I\'ve seen, the rubber becomes clogged with grit and stuff over time and water starts pooling.  A good blast with an air line will help it, and also check the small \'weep\' hole at the bottom is free.

I\'ve had several leaks in that area - for some reason the passenger side seems to get it worse - no idea why.

I\'ll have to wait and see what the engine fix is going to cost first - limited budget.

Right, found a guy on ebay he\'s close to me and has an engine BUT is there a difference between the turbo and non turbo block?

I\'ve asked him the question but he admits that he isn\'t sure, this was his reply

Quotehi john, the 13b is out of the second gen non
turbo, but i think it might have been in a turbo
before, cos, it a has blanking plate made and
fitted to the air intake section manifold, has
some thing to do with the air pump which is not on
there now, or emessions related , has the oil feed
for the turbo, and return , but not the right oil
return place, in the sump, and not next to the
bottom water pump pipe , as it should be .
basicly, its non turbo now, but could be turbo ???
im no expert ,, come over have alook and see what
you think

Would it be usable as a donor?

Thanks

John

I\'ve asked they previous owner about the ECU situation and he sent me this back

Quotethe ecu that is in the car right now has a \'non removable\' rom chip, its a proper jdm performance ecu designed for an apexi avcr, it also has a fuel cut defender, its cabable of taking an uprated front mount inter cooler and a larger turbo, however that ecu had only been in for 2 weeks when it blew the engine, the chip thats in the centre console is the chip that came with the car the ecu it came in is in my house with a beat 4 chip in it (this is the removable one) so if i send you the ecu with the beat 4 chip in you then have a choice of 3 ecu set ups (in hindsight id stick with the beat 4 one) its designed for the set up of the car exactly as it is now, the rxo1 chip thats in the centre cosole is of unknown origin altho its definatly not standard - the chip that managed to produce the 240bhp was the rx01 chip - if you send us your address ill send you the original ecu with removable beat 4 chip

Is it just the short block, or does he have manifolds on it.  Pictures would be good to help identify it, but fundamentally the N/A and turbo lumps are different - the NA lump has 6 inlet ports, whereas the turbo lump only has 4.

Sounds like this might have been a 6 port lump that\'s been mated to a turbo at some stage in it\'s life.  Ideally you are looking for the 13BT lump.

I\'ve got an engine (13BT) that needs a rebuild if your interested.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

I\'d love to mate but paying for professional assistance may well stretch beyond my current budget.

Don\'t get me wrong I know from past experience that your costs are more than reasonable but I am looking at a pretty shot engine here.

Give me a ring or drop me a mail, you never know.

I\'d love to just bring it down.

Thanks for the offer

Hi John

Love the car mate, cant wait to see it in the bare metal. My engine went a while back, and I pulled it myself and spent alot of time on it. When I got it all back together it still had coolant problems. After all the seals and other parts I bought and wasted, In the end I got it trailered down to carl (by john, carls mate who\'s quite cheap) and got it fixed properly.

So it sometimes pays off to just save and get it done right, first time!

Just a thought

Good luck:burnout
