I have had my Rex for a couple of months now & although it was obviously a good car it wasn\'t running to the best of it\'s potential. The reasons will become clear!
The previous owner told me it was running the base map on the power FC ECU & that a re-map would be required. As I hadn\'t owned one of these cars before it was difficult to judge just how good/bad it was running, it felt quick, albeit lumpy, with hesitation at around five & a half k revs, & plenty of backfires on the overrun.
I booked a mapping session with RE:Worx, nr Portsmouth today, & came back with a huge grin. First of all they needed to sort out a cooling issue, I didn\'t realise it but the intercooler duct was missing, so the i/c didn\'t have a direct flow of cold air. Then they discovered a strange problem with the coolant system. It looked to me that someone had modified the pipework to miss out the AST bottle, but that was only half the story. That mod had been started, but not finished! There was nowhere for the coolant to overflow to, & to compound matters it didn\'t even have a pressurised cap. This was something they had not seen before, & I was told I was very lucky the engine didn\'t go pop!
Well, they sorted this out too, & also rewired the fuel pump, as the voltage drop through the wiring meant the car ran lean.
This too was sorted & mapping could begin.
Other than the A\'pexi Powert FC & commander, the only other mods are Trust intercooler, A\'pexi air filters, de-cat & free flow exhaust.
So, the end result? 333bhp @ the flywheel & 300lbft torque, @ 0.9bar.
320bhp @ 0.8bar.
Not too shabby as the standard figure for a \'93 car is 255bhp.
The car now pulls like the preverbial train, it was quick before but now it is really something.
A big thumbs up to the RE:Worx guys, very helpful too, highly recommended.
I cannot wait for sunday at santa Pod to see what sort of times I can get!!

thanks

andy

gandyRX

just had a look at your previous posts mate sounds like its been sold a couple of times before you bought it if you want to know any bits about it when i owned it feel free to ask

speedfreak

Hey thanks Andy, you have pm.

B.

speedfreak

except you don\'t, how the hell do you send pm\'s on here?

gandyRX

sorry mate false of habbit, dont think you can send pm\'s on this site unless your a full member, i can tell you stuff about it in this thread if you dont mind it being displayed publicly

speedfreak

Yeah, I don\'t mind at all mate, anything & everything you can tell me would be cool. I have been looking at some of your old posts too, & you put up a cell number, is it still current & do you mind if I call you?

I notice at one point you mention Tein shockers, but the guy I bought it from told me they were Ohlins coilovers. The adjustable nob is gold if that tells you if they have been changed?

Cheers,
Brook.

well i bought the car in may 07 from a lady who imported it from japan direct from japan, i was the second owner. it had very low mileage which is unusual for an rx7, think it worked out at something like 27k or something like that, could be wrong but it was very low. it had a stage 1 cat back exhaust from rotechniks and a k&n induction kit. it came with a apexi ecu and controller but wasnt mapped at the time, it had full tein racing suspension and 19inch alloys, sorry i forget the name. it also had a full racing clutch and a blitz turbo timmer.

First thing i did was buy the apexi filters and jp racing exhaust, changed the badges and some of the interior bits, then i had a clifford alarm fitted and i fitted a kenwood stereo and made a lighting box above it and wired it to the stereo so the rx7 badge was lit up by the blue leds behind it. i also fitted a sub and amp and a nice set of wing mirrors

Then it was taken to surrey rolling road where it made 298.5bhp, but i was told it was running rich on idle and lean on boost, it was also running 1.3 bar which was too high, so after that it wasnt driven on boost all the way home.

Next day i spoke to carl at heyward rotary on here and it was taken for mapping, we had a really good mapping session and he took me all through the stages for it. after mapping it felt like a new car, it was alot faster and was running less boost, it had no flatspots and pulled well in each gear, it was fantastic

Next something rather unfortunate happend, some dappy woman reversed into the front bumper and cracked it so it was resprayed and the number plate moved into the center

Then i basically just kept it clean as started detailing and entering it into compertitions and shows

Then after about a year i decided that i wasnt driving it enough and it was a waste so i reluctantly decided to sell her, i still miss her to this day but i wouldnt drive her enough.

thats all i remember really ive got lots of pictures but it looks totally different now,

one thing that is confusing me is about the mapping and cooling bits, mainly because carl on here mapped it and the cooling system was perfect, i know the cooling was good because i was looking into getting a vmount set up but i decided to sell her before i got it

there should be mountains of paperwork and even the original import documents

hope that helps

gandyRX

do you have any other pics of her?

gandyRX

oh yeah sorry forgot to mention yes my mobile number is still the one i use lol so feel free to call if you like, probably easier to be honest coz theirs too much to write down lol

gandyRX

pic of her at SRR

speedfreak
