After a few months of tinkering and fixing things, I finally got my car back on it\'s wheels last weekend,  All ready to fail the MOT on monday.
There were 4 things it failed on,  I created a bit of an open pocket on the underside with my welding repairs, brakes, hand brake, and hand brake again ?,  so during the week the brakes were jimmy\'d about, they were really seized,  the front pads were very unevenly worn as 2 of the pots on both sides were seized all together, so there is like 1 new and 1 worn out pad on each side.
Sorted out the open pocket, by bashing it closed and welding it together.  Some other advisory bits were fixed to, like a water leak (pipe had blown off) and un-secured battery.

The car went in for it\'s second MOT this morning, which I really thought it was going to pass.  Well it didn\'t hence the title,  It only failed on one thing this time though, the brakes.
Efficiency had gone up from 20% to about 47% the minimum required is 50% but apparently it should be up around 75%.  So third time lucky hopefully, will probably be some time next week before I can go for another one.
I\'m hoping some new pads on the front will sort it out,  and there was some talk that the master brake cylinder might be knackered so I may have to get a new one of those too.  Almost 3 months of ownership and I haven\'t even driven my car yet, sad times.

Chin up lad, i would take each calliper off one at a time, get some brake cleaner, copa slip and take all the pistons out and the sliders apart clean with a wire brush and emery paper, grease the sliders and rebuild it doesnt take long. Remember the rear pistons screw out.

Ah mate that sucks. Do as Colin says. The callipers are renownd for sticking.

It just so happens I have a pair of fronts for sale that you could rebuild then swap over onto your car.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Thanks for the input. The calipers are all sorted now so there not sticking, there was a lot of crud in the Master Brake cylinder which is now cleaned out, new brake calipers and discs on the way.  So should be stopping properly shortly!

sp7 oks,

Im in the same boat as you Ive had my FC roughly 5 months with 2 months just sat neglected in the garage while I was sourcing bits. Ive spent 3 months sorting her out and still is a month or two away lol.

Im part way though changing all the lines to new copper and goodridge lines and I really wish I didnt take the ABS out now :S

Hope its sails through 3rd time round (ive been there before...several times :P)
