What fuel for remap? Ethanol?

Well I booked in with Pip in WGT for a remap next Tuesday but trying to decide what fuel to put in it for the remap. In Ireland we have no Super/Premium anymore, the only fuels available are regular 95 octane, E5 (5% ethanol - aparently 99.2 octane) or E85 (85% ethanol)

I know that if I went for E85 I would have to carry it over seperately & just have enough fuel in the tank to get me to WGT. I also know that a few people using it in other cars have had issues with cold starts in winter which I think would just be adding more problems to the whole rotary flooding issue. Anyone else run E85 in an RX7?

I am running a Garrett T78 single turbo, 1600cc secondaries, PFC etc etc will I get more power getting it mapped with E5 over normal 95? Obviously E85 I will but am I just better with E5?

Hope this all makes sense lol :Thumbsup!

It really depends on how it is going to be mapped - I would go with Pip\'s advice.  Quite a few mappers use an ignition profile that they know wont knock from experience and then just play with the fuelling - if this is the case then you wont necesarily get more power by using a higher RON fuel.  I\'ve also been told that it is pretty hard to hear knock on a rotary.

If you use 99 ron then you can advance the ignition more without the engine detonating, and resistance to Det will be higher.

V-power in the UK is 99 ron, so you could have the car mapped on that and then use the equivalent on Ire...

I would go that route - but I guess it depends on how much you care about the power figures and how much hastle you are prepared to put up with.

You will defo get more power with E85 (better cooling/det surpression able to run higher boost etc) but you will use more injector flow for the correct AFR and therefore your mpg will be less.

Depends what you are using the car for , if its a fast road then use E5

As blitz says but also you could run out of injectors on E85 (dependin on engine spec), it has less calorific value therefore you have to add a lot more of it, a general rule is you will possibly use one third more e85 than regular fuel, so you will more than likely have to upgrade your injectors.

Im running E85 and iv upgraded to 1680 primary\'s and 1680 secondarys, but thats on a 13b pp and gt42, also we built in some future proofing at the same time.

Also you may want to look into the comparability of injectors vs E85 if i remember correctly we used bosh 1680s as they have been tried and tested for E85.

Isn\'t there issues with rubber hoses and seals in fuel pumps that need to be checked before using E85.
