Anyone used LED bulbs?

I\'m going to do the rear fog light conversion and convert my offside reversing light into a fog light, meaning that I can then get rid of the existing fog light which looks like an afterthought and always gets smoked up by the exhaust.
I\'m undecided whether to use a 21w filament bulb and paint it red or just get a 21w red led bulb.
I\'ve never used an led bulb before and wondered if anyone else has any experience of them... good or bad?

I used one for my rear fog lamp but as the bulb goes in sideways I used one with LED\'s around the edge rather than like your pic which has them on the end.

Cheers for that, I didn\'t realise that it went in side ways.
Hows the light intensity?

I\'ve used LED\'s throughout on the rear of my TII - the best ones I\'ve found are similar to the ones Spartacus has shown.  They have 13 1W LED\'s - 5 lots of 2 around the outside and 3 on the top.  They give a good all round light in a standard light fitting.  You can get them in single and dual base formats as well - so they can be used for fog / brake / rear lights.  They come in Red, Yellow/Amber and White.

Light intensity is good but I\'m sorry I might have misled you on the sideways fitting as mine is in a FD. Best take yours out before you buy and check.

i have done this in mine using a LED bulb (makes it look a lot better IMO) and it works although i dont think that it is all that bright (might just be the cheap bulb i bought) but it passes a MOT :cool

I replaced all the bulbs in my 80 RX7 with LED 2 yrs ago - at some cost (!), only to have people telling me my rear brake lights weren\'t working. Well, they WERE, but to dim to be seen in daylight. Likewise other bulbs. These were supposedly correct replacements for Auto use. W-a-a-a-a-ay too dim even with big multi-LED clusters. went back to Edison-style incandescents ;) There ARE LEDs out there that do the job (as most new Audi\'s prove) - just nothing in the aftermarket - at least, in USA
