Yep, thats Dave\'s pristeen car :driving
All the best Clive

David Nock (RIP)

Beautiful isn\'t it?
I do worry about how he\'s cleaned inside the exhaust with a toothbrush though!

Few niggles with the commentary, 18mpg round town might be right but it should then lift to around 24 mpg on a reasonable run. (Mine is 23.6 average over the last year - in most traffic conditions). Also no one would get mine (or Dave\'s I suspect) for £2000.

My daily driver is a 4 litre and it beats the RX7 for MPG hands down.
21 around town and 30 on a good run.
My RX7 doesn\'t come anywhere near this.
Also, as we all know, unless you have to take the engine apart, they are a doddle to work on, especially in comparison to modern cars.
Specialists my a*** !
I saw this feature on the tele a while back and thought then that it was a bit of a missed opportunity to positively promote the cars.

Not as bad though as practical classics feature on them a while back which was dire, rehashed dross. I remember they showed a picture of the engine bay on the series 3 feature car and boldly stated that the \'beehive\' oil cooler was a \'thermal reactor\'.

Stu,

Thanks for the link to this. I did previously post pictures of the filming at

As far as the script went Alex Riley received it the night before and seemed to be fine tuning each bit just before the take.  I did have the chance to talk to him a bit about the car and add a few bits which appeared to influence some of the dialogue however I think most was pre-written by researchers. I do remember telling him that I did all the regular work on the car myself and that the only item that had needed changing was the exhaust.

Only downside of the day is that I picked up a nail through the front offside tyre at some point during the day, typically it was on the shoulder of the tyre and thus unrepairable.

David - I have used a toothbrush to clean some bits on the car (those annoying bits in the Mazda badges etc.) however I can not remember using on the exhaust.  My normal trick to clean and shine tail pipe is a rag with some T-cut on.  Gets rid of the black stuff a treat!!
