I am having a problem with my FD as it idles at 3,000 rpm any answers?

marco

check the manual adjustment screw hasnt come loose and wound down due to the vibration whilst driving.

chrisyerkes

Yep I checked it and it is all the way up as not to have any pressure on it. Could it be the idle control valve?

Idles at 3k warm or cold?

Three things jump to mind:
-If the car is cold it will idle at around 3k as this is the accelerated warmup system, after this point it should drop down to normal revs - unless this sytem has become none functional in the "on position" not sure if thats possible though.
-Throttle cable wrongly adjusted, or pedal stuck etc
-Throttle butterflys not closing.

Have you been doing any work on your car before it started happening.
I woof in your general direction.

the little screw at the top front of the throttle body, wind this away from the lever and it may sort your probs out, it needs a nut on it to keep it still too. mine barely touches the lever (1 wind or so)

I put a turbo timer on it and after a couple of weeks it started idling at 3,000 rpm cold. I will have to check the throttle body to see if it is getting stuck open. The screw isnt even toucking the lever, that was the first thing I thought it was.

I think you\'ll find it\'s the the warmup wax valve which moves a little cam and knocks the throttle plates open a crack until warm. You\'ll see it on the back of the TB just under the throttle position sensor. Got a little screw with a spring around it, you can\'t miss it. Push it down and I\'m sure you\'ll find the revs dropping.

Did you get it sorted chap?

chrisyerkes

Yep I figured it out, it was the screw underneath the TPS sensor. It def helped out now it goes back to the MOT. Thanks guys much appreciated.
