See told you guys I would be making another thread :Hammer

Been at it all day putting another engine in the FC and for the life of me cant line up the transmission to the propshaft.

I have at hand two Hydro Jacks , 1 x 2 Ton Engine crane and a couple of mates.

The engine is close lining up to the engine mounts but is struggling to get the propshaft in.

anyone know how or what the besat action is? the car is on a slight incline and there\'s a small bump which makes things arkward.

Any help appreciated.

Is the propshaft still bolted up at the diff ?

It\'s easier to get the engine/gearbox in, and then once it\'s all bolted up, just slide the prop shaft on and do the 4 bolts that attach it to the diff.

If it\'s not going on well, then probably just needs rotating a fraction to line up the splines on the shaft.

Yep, as prof says, undo it at the diff end ;) Make sure you mark up the shaft and flange to ensure it goes back in the same place to maintain balance.

If that\'s not the problem then you may just have to struggle! :rollin

One thing to watch out for - when I took my engine out, the prop shaft landed on the floor and the outer part flattened ever so slightly - if this has happened you may stuggle to get the prop shaft to slip into the gearbox.

Cheers guys,!

I was doing it the other way round as there was little space but realise thats just the stupid way of doing it.

Going to take the diff off and propshaft and then get the car on axle stands and try doing it the other way.

Thanks for the tips as well with regards to marking them etc.

The cars slowly getting there.

Still having a nightmare doing this.

got the car up on the axle stands and can see the 4 bolts I need to undo but they just dont seem to want to move at all , duck oil has been sprayed and soaked a ratchet just doesnt seem to want to crack them.

want to do this today as ive got some help tody so want to try and get the big things done.

any tips appreciated.

h20490

Anyone? I just cant seem to get enough force to crack them loose? te proshaft moves slightly (as its still in the diff housing.)

Mine shifted with a big spanner - but watch your knuckles :spank

Duck oil is probably the answer - could try wafting a blow torch over them as well - that might help swell the bolts and losen them a tad.

Cheers Prof! :-)

I keep going at it with the duck oil giving it a rest for today as Im on my own and its a bit of a pain getting under the car with limited tools etc.

Its only 4 14mm bolts which is why its getting on my nerves as they just dont want to budge and Im scared of rounding the nuts off.

Blow torch would be good but dont have acess to any electric in the garage.

Again thanks for the advice :-)

No matter what, spanners always suck. No chance of getting a socket on? If so, in gear, handbrake on, breaker bar and done. (I\'ve not looked at the prop on mine yet)

h20490

cant use a breaker bar as there not enough clearence underneath the car.

I did use a diddy multi ratchet but as its tiny couldnt put enough force to crack it open.

Cant put it in gear as I did it the other way round and pulled the prop from the gerbox and replaced both engine and gearbox when I came to fit it.

so its held on by the diff side and roped up near the gearbox so its at least level and off the ground.

Cheers for the tips I will try it next time Im down

Just saw Profs thread Re:54mm Flywheel Nut so im off to Tesco\'s to get some Maintenance spray and a Martin but not sure where they are in Tesco\'s?

Right this should be sorted tomorrow as my girlfreinds dad is coming down in his van with generator and air tools.

Just want to ask a stupid question before something stupid happens.....

The nuts and bolts both remove on the propshaft/diff box right?

I dont want to be the cnut thats been trying to remove welded nuts .

Cheers

bumpstart

you lock the shaft from turning by using the shaft edge of a screw driver wedging between the heads of two of the bolts
( and handbrake on )
it takes a deft blow on a ring spanner with the heel of your hand to crack the nuts

don\'t yet undo the nuts,, just crack them so that you can rotate the shaft and repeat the wedge trick till all are cracked open

- then mark the shaft and the diff flange edge and undo the bolts

h20490

Bumpstart!

Thanks for this information greatly appreciated going to give it another go might not need the air tools after all :-)

h20490

Woohoo! There cracked :-)

I tried using Bumpstarts way but they just wouldnt free so HGV Vehicles came down and used the air gun on the propshaft, oil cooler lines and the shaft bolt as they all needed to come off to be changed and Im doing the oil squirter mod.

Lets hope I get a fair bit done today still need to get a bloody fuel filter as thats the last of the servicable parts I need.

Also waiting on some brake lines to remove the ABS completely

:-) a very happy day dispite having man flu and working in the cold :-)
