Hi all.
Just wondered if anyone had an opinion on this.
My 94 RX7 has been playing up fo a couple of days mainly volts dropping, just had it tested and seems the alternator has gone. I have phoned a couple of companies and had some ridiculous quotes for a new one which is the mitsubishi alternator which is a common one on the 3rd gens. I am considering having it refurbished but dont know if this will last and if it is even possible also had a quote for an alternative cross referencing the numbers off my alternator and one that is made in china has come back for £100 + vat which seems a little too cheap, i need help on this subject should i buy genuine new or refurb or even take the cheaper alternative there is also a company on ebay that do them for just over £100 but are they any good.
Please Help.

"There\'s precious little to go wrong in an alternator"
A quote from Lucas Service depot when I was silly enough to consider replacing one on something else.

The refurbishment was a lot cheaper but check it is not something stupid simple like needing a new set of brushes (not that I know whether you can change them in a Japanese alternator) or just a damn good clean to clear carbon deposits off the surface the brushes connect with.

See if you can find a refurbishment service near home and ask for a quote before you buy one (Chinese or not). It will probably be a standard service with a flat rate price.

As Andrew Say\'s just get it refurbished, any local specialist can do this and chances are the price will come out cheaper than the ebay quote. Essentially all thats in there is the windings that don\'t tend to give problems, the brush pack which is a cheap replacement item and regulator which once again don\'t cost the earth.
