Whats happening with my gear box?  all of a sudden the car didnt want to go in to any gear!  my first thought was the gearbox oil so i checked that and it took about a litre, i took it for a spin and all seemed fine once the car is running it seems fine but when it sits on idle the car hates reverse and is very difficult to get in any gear, is it time for me to remove the box and cry myself to sleep or is it possible to that the clutch has moved and isnt opening as far as it was before? is there an adjustment somewhere,as i say when the car drives it is fine with no funny noises at all!!  any help would be much appreciated.

it could certainly be the clutch, what oil did you fill it with ? I recently changed the engine and box on my rally car and filled the gearbox with oil that was slightly too thin and its notchy when cold.

loosing a litre of oil isn\'t normal for a gearbox though and might hint that you have a more sinister problem :(

Can i just say you\'ve had more than enough problems with that rx haven\'t you, in a way its good for me as my other half wanted me to buy that rx you have so glad i didn\'t.

Anyhow if the oiling of the box has done nothing its more of a problem than first thought, get on the buzzer to a specialist and tell them the symptoms and they will be able to diagnose the prob for ya matey.

Hope it all works out in the end:)

i used an ep 80 oil that was all i had handy, if it made a difference i was going to drain it and fill it with some good oil

if it is just changing gear thats the problem it might just be the hydraulic clutch needs bleading, it isnt too difficult. You might find that your slave cylinder has a small leak of has air in it which will mean your clutch isnt releasing as it should.  If its just 1st or 2nd gear it might be syncro mesh worn out.

it does seem to be every gear it is happening and once i am going it is alot better than when on idle, i will try bleeding the clutch and fingers crossed it will be cool never estimated for a new box always thought rebuild rebuild rebuild was all i had to save for
