Octane boost has been proven to have zero effect.  There have been loads of scientific tests on the benefits of additives, and all have said that they will do bugger all....well other than rape your wallet!

i have to travel 20 miles to my nearest shell garage :rollin :(

what i would like to know is what would happen if you used "normal" 95ron fuel, ie more det/knock, run leaner???

Shell Vpower only for me, mapped for it + vpower card gives me money off.

Karl, more likelyhood of det/knock with lower octane fuel

What you are saying is quite misleading, octane booster increases both the ron and mon rateing of fuel. Whever it is value for money or not is up to the user.
Also i\'d like to point out that when it says xxron on the pump that\'s what you get minimum as i understand it chances of getting old fuel from the pump is like zero.

I disagree....when the fuel companies receive their fuel they are buying anywher upto 60,000 litres at a time.  The shelf life of fuel isnt very long at all....most places I have found have said that petrol will start to go stale after 3 months.  I will claify this tomorrow if either Shell or BP are willing to answer this question :)

So as said, if the fuel station has a rough few months then the fuel will have started to go stale.  Plus Im not quite sure what happens when different octane ratings are mixed...another question to ask tomorrow!!  As there will always be dregs at the bottom of the tank.

interesting reads... so given that v-power has a slower turnover.. for all we know it could of gone stale by the time it comes out of the pump?
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

I try and use V-power but really just go for whatever 99 octane fuel is available either tesco or v-power, will this do any harm carl?

slingo

I use v-power with slight premix of 2 stroke ! smells like a scrambler on steriods ....

I use tesco 99 and quite happy with it. I do have to drive 15 miles just to get there but its the nearest super unleaded to me. The nearest shell is probably more 25 miles away.

Mine running on Tesco 99, there are no shell places near and the only 1s I have seen, the V power is an extra 10P, I did try it, but didn\'t feel any difference, although im pretty sure most of it is just burning in the exhaust till I get the e-manage in hehe

I read a fuel test in banzia some time ago and shell got the most ign advance before d.e.t about 14 degress more than others the tesco 99 ron came out with 94 ron and they recon you\'re better off with super unleaded 97 ron .......

Just don\'t go on boost much and you should be ok, the RX is a high performance sports car and does need high performance fuel

On a stock ecu, unleaded is fine, you will have less power with super unleaded, very noticebly so.
E85 is best though,105 octane at 102p/litre,car does need mods for it.
