Quote from: Rzla;635524Lol ever asked yourself the question why does it generally happen to Carl?
I will ask my friend to come and say so for himself... but the thing you have forgotten is \'\'WARRANTY\'\' that has come with the engine Carl made him.

Nowhere in this thread did I state that he has not achieved anything. I am merely trying to get some answers off him to which he blatently refuses to respond to. Why?
I just want to know why when he mentioned the ignition being the restricitive aspect to his mapping of the car that another tuner was able to map?
To be frank if he had not said to my friend I can install an ignition set up for X amount, then he could map. But to me it seems like a ploy to get some more money which is to be honest disappointing because money does not grow on trees.

If you had the same experience believe me you would be asking the same questions.

And for the record if there was ignition break up JayD would not have mapped the car, that is without doubt. If there was a hint of ignition breakup Jay would have told him to he was not able to map until that got sorted.

Seriously can you either tell Carl who it is or get them to reply themselves as we are getting nowhere here.

Ah my bad - it was too subtle for me that early in the morning. Nudged back again to show there\'s more inside, though it hardly seems like the most important thing right now...

even got chance to see the lovely n/a gen1 running a 12a race car of stacy vickers . which has one two races now i might add top job the cars so clean and engine looked very minimal but for two wins obviously just the ticket from hayward rotary.

Not going to slag off Carl, as he is good at what he does best.....:Talking1 But credit where credit is due. Staceys car was built and developed by Pip and Dave at WGT over a period of 4-5 years. :Thumbs-up

Hmmm.

Always try to avoid these sort of threads, but I\'m constantly surprised at the number of people who have opinions on my car and I without talking to me and it does rather get up my nose.. The facts of the matter are thus;

I had many years of success with WGT which included 3 championships, many race wins and many more fond and amusing memories. I wasn\'t a one man band in the partnership, but neither it has to be said were they - together I think we were stronger than the sum of our parts for that period. I was certainly not a distant partner, and for example I note that one of my developments, on which there was initial disagreement, is now a regular WGT solution.

I think it\'s fair to say it was a learning period for all, but I was, and still am, surprised that there was not a queue of people at the door of WGT asking them for the same but in blue..  I am aware it sounds awful, but maybe the bar had been set too high.

However in 2008 the season did not go as well, we struggled to make the predicted power on a new engine to the new regulations and there were a handful of failures as the car became increasingly tired.

For numerous reasons I do not think it appropriate to post in open forums we took the decision to prepare the car entirely ourselves, and exactly that happened over the last Winter. This was a nut and bolt rebuild, repainted, reengineered and with lots of new thought. The car has set multiple lap records this year, and is regularly a few tenths per mile faster than it had been. We are back at the front and faster than we\'d ever been because of /our/ work.

At Cadwell Park this year the WGT engine suffered lower oil pressure, and in line with our philosophy we wanted to build it ourselves. Time was against us and with a shortage of trusted suppliers willing to assist in the timeframe we were up against it to get back out for the rest of the season without missing rounds.

I have known Carl for some years through his relationship with RX3 racer Dave Nixon. Carl offered to help oversee the build and I gratefully accepted, and he made sure the engine was put together properly.

Consequently while a home build it was to his spec, using his parts, and we raced at Oulton Park on Saturday setting a new lap record, and taking two wins.  I was particularly pleased with this as my RX7 competition albeit in a higher class, 13B racer Tony Ellis, had just come from WGT on the way through and they had found him some extra horsepower too.

In a hectic timeframe Carl offered to build a 13B motor for the rest of the season and given that this includes Silverstone Grand Prix (long straights), and the German Touring Cars at Brands it was a good time to step up a class and join Tony in class B with equal power.

Carl has done just this and taking it to my friend of many years to dyno it (Mark @ Owen Developments in Kingston Bagpuize) I was delighted to note that it has /all/ the power believe me.. It\'s an upgrade that\'s for sure. I am however running a bridge port spec exhaust which has seen one too many kerbs and the car was down at Carl\'s for him to make up a peripheral port spec exhaust - if it\'s done off the car I will be there for hours cutting and shutting and making it fit.

Once complete I will take it back to Mark for a final dyno, then that will be us hopefully for the remainder of the season.

So to be scrupulously fair to Carl he\'s shown me he can walk the walk in some strong competition. His engines have already won races, and I have the tools to do it again this season.

I can\'t comment on those with issues with him and have tried to avoid these discussions, but as I\'ve been sucked into it I can and should speak as I find.

He doesn\'t have the facilities of a WGT by a long margin, and for someone who\'s spark plugs and socket have their own cut outs in our tool box, a nose around Carl\'s bench is an adventure(I\'m still swearing at the thought of it!), but I\'ve come to trust my antennae over the years and believe he\'s honest and for me that goes a long way. I know that Dave Nixon thinks the same, and I\'ve learnt to trust Dave\'s judgement over the years too.

Quote from: gsb876;635535RZLA - please keep it clean on here and take up the issues with Carl in person via phone call or email, almost every tuner will have some bad experiences out there.

Infact the other tuners mentioned have had threads on here with bad experiences too so not quite fair to mention them.

If your mate has had a bad experience either get him to get into contact with Carl or let him represent himself :cheers

thanks

Unfortunately Gurj you have made me have to respond. I know you are looking out for your homeboy Carl who I have no problem with, in fact we even chat, but there was a simple reason why this car had breakup, nothing to do with ignition. I didn\'t even tell the owner what the problem was, I just fixed it, and made sure the owner was happy with how the car drove. And he called me the over the weekend and told me he is loving the car.

JayDee

FYI the reason it would have been breaking up was due to the car running too Rich.
This is no refection on Carls abilities as a number of things could have caused this...ie...wideband reading wrong etc etc

Hi JayDee,

thanks for replying, but please be aware i have no afiliation with Carl whatsoever, he has never worked on any of my cars and i am not in regular contact with him regarding anything.

Was getting slightly annoyed with RZLA making claims but seemed daft not to get the person actually involved to make a comment ?

hope that clears that up dude

Waddock

I have been at Carl\'s today for some general repairs to the engine, a non sequential turbo conversion, new exhaust and mapping session.

This was a last minute request as I am going back to the Nurburgring on Thursday and was not happy with the 7\'s health. I have spent the full day there with Carl, jeff and mike going crazy on my car to get it all done in one day. It\'s now bloody amazing! The journey home was so much fun :)

All I can say about Carl and his crew is that are a truly great bunch of enthusiastic knowlegable rx7 gurus. who have so far always been very honest and commited when performing any work on my 7.
Over the few years I have been modify cars it has always been very difficult to find some one I trust with my pride and joy. on this occasion I am very happy with their work! In fact after the drive home I have Rediscovered my love for my 7.

Thanks guys for all your help today, it is much appreciated!

One final comment .... Mike makes a great cup of coffee... Although it may take him 40 mins or so to boil the kettle :)
