Guys,

I have a 1992 japanese import automatic, i think its a "type x" as it has sunroof and cruise control.

Question is, what parts are required to swap to manual?

As far as i know, its:

Gearbox
rear plate
starter motor
some loom (not sure which bit, any info?)
clutch and flywheel
pedal set, master & slave cylinder.

apart from that i think its it, apart from the diff as well if you want the manual ratio one.

Am i correct? Anything else needed?

Is the prop shaft A different length ???

Yes it is, so you need one of those too.

Ecu and you can still use the auto rear plate as I have Phil\'s^^^ old auto engine in my FD connected to the original manual box

Jit

Dont forget the pilot bearing and seal carl!
From what i remember, auto and manual props are the same length - its the bolt pattern on the diff thats different hence you either use manual prop and diff or you change the front flange on the auto diff for a flange from a manual diff and then use the auto prop - might be totally wrong tho!

You could be right, but I thought that the diff flanges were different lengths meaning that the prop was a different length, but then again I\'m getting old and my memory isn’t what it was.;)

How do you do this? Just use the same auto starter motor?

Does anyone else have any experience with the prop?  I dont understand how the bolt pattern on the diff affects the fitting of the prop? (unless its the length of it, as someone else stated, can anyone confirm?)

re:the different ECU, i take it all the loom etc still fits? Does anyone know what bit of loom it is that i need thats different?

Jit, what do you mean don\'t forget the pilot bearing and seal? Are you talking about just changing it, or is there a different one from auto to manual?

Also Jit, can i please have that bell housing back that you borrowed all those years ago, i plan to use the box it came off to do the conversion!

Thanks for the help guys!

Bobfish

also Jit, can you help with any of the above bits? I know you\'ve always got loads of .... lying around :)

Jit

Hey dude, not sure if you got my new number - 07595918063 give me a buzz and yeah ill have to find a bellhousing to return to you (long long story but ill sort one dont you worry!)

Ive got experience of the prop! The auto prop will not fit the flange on the manual diff as the bolts are slightly further out (from memory) on the auto. You cant grind the holes out as there isnt enough metal to grind at.

Loom still fits. Depends what way you are going about it. When I did it, it was just bypassing the inhibitor (bridging one wire) and then hooking up reverse and VSS. There are other ways of doing it which involving modifying bits of loom but Ive not looked into it

Regarding pilot bearing...well the autos dont have a pilot bearing full stop so youll need to put one in unless you want to hear a shed load of rattling!!

As for parts mate, surprising little in the way of parts at the moment although I can put you onto someone who has a manual diff and a starter

First of all it\'s called a \'DRIVE SHAFT\', an automobile does not have a Propeller! ;)

 a. The Drive Shafts are different in the Auto and Manual FD\'s... You cannot swap them as 1/ the Yoke to the boxes are different, the auto input shaft is fatter. 2/ the back end/cross joint is also \'bigger\' and so the bolt pattern is different.

So yes if doing an auto to manual or vise versa, you need all 3 of the same.. well unless you want to mince about opening the diff to swap out the drive shaft connection rose or cut the shafts to swap the front yoke...

 b. ECU can be simply swapped for the same year manual model.

 c. You can use the rear iron from the auto engine but will need an adaptor kit for the starter to fit.
If you were planning to strip and rebuild the engine, may be best to get a manual rear iron to avoid having to get the starter to fit the auto.

 d. Everything above is not speculation, it\'s 100% correct....

 Good Luck with it.....
