Hi, new to the forum, as you might be able to tell from the name (FWD_Boy) Im not currently in the land of RWD, but in the near future I will be.

Im currently looking to upgrade from my FWD Alfa 156 to something abit more pokie and RWD, Ive currently go the list down to either a BMWE36 M3 Evo or a RX8... You might think thats a funny comparison as they are quite different cars - completely, but the draw of something alot newer and JDM is a strong puller for me.

So basically Im looking to find out as much about the RX8 as a car so I can better make a judgement, most people Ive talked to lean towards the M3 but these are mainly people who havent driven a RX8.

So what are they pit falls with the RX8 or mainly the ReGenesis engine, Ive been told that its quite heavy on oil and mpg are quite low. Id be looking at the 231bhp model rather than the 192bhp.

And thats about it really any advice or views on the two cars, pros and cons of the M3 and the RX8 are greatly welcomed

Thanks

Hi & Welcome to the MRC Forum :)

Just to correct you :- 189bhp = 192ps /////// 228bhp = 231ps :driving

Good luck finding the right RX8 :)

Hi and welcome to MRC,

I am sure that more knowledgeable people will come forward about the BMW but from what I have seen and read driven hard or even properly the I suspect the BMW will return the same sort of MPG and oil consumption as the RX-8,

I was shocked the other day to read that BMW have moved the goal posts on the M5 from 1 liter per 1,000 miles to  1 liter per 600 miles !

Two things that I can say though is that the RX-8 will out corner an M3 and also you wont have people doing a double take to see if your "M3" is really a badged up and dressed up DIESEL :Giggle

An RX8 will outcorner an M3 and you won\'t be a BMW driver.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

TBH all you need to say is you wont be a BMW driver.....

After a lot of soul searchin the E36 evo went out the window ages ago, mainly as Id want it garaged and the missis\'s garage wouldnt take my Alfa 156 so a E36 aint gona fit also the RX8 is newer better looking and just ticks more boxes.

I reckon after xmas I\'ll have the extra funds to start serously lookin and test drivin.

Gona aim for a budget of £6k with hopefull £500-£800 tied up in my 156 so all in all probally around the £7k mark
