Heya,

I`m thinking of going for a bit more power from my rex, so far ive got a straight through exhaust, arc intercooler, greddy boost controller and apexi power fc...mapped to .9 bar, 281.5bhp. So pretty standard.

Basically thinking of trying the non-sequential set-up as ive heard its a similar driving experience as to having a small single turbo set-up? Will I actually see any increase in power or will the power delivery just be different?

Also, what is involved in the conversion and how much would it typically cost to do?

Thanks

Trev

is that 281.5 bhp at the flywheel or the wheels ???

The non-sequential mod will not give you anymore hp just change the power delivery, you will get nothing till around 3k then full boost to redline.

I personally cannot see the point in it if your sequential system is working correctly.

If you want a bit more power get a uprated fuel pump and a fpr and get it mapped for 1bar

I\'ve done the poor mans version of this and is going to Super7 on Monday for the full conversion.

Personaly i like it as have no drop in boost through the rev range and have no rats nest (was getting no boost on 1st turbo issues in seq - later to be found to be split hoses) so did the poor mans - only took a few hours and got the how-to from here and followed it to the letter and had no issues other than overboost (had no B/controller at the time) and loved it! you can always switch back or go do the full conv\'.
...it\'s my stepping stone while i save parts for a winter project and single for next summer.

I got RR\'d @ 302BHP (311@Fly (at WGT - w/Pip)) with the same mods as you minus the B/cont\' but have a standard Cat before conversion and will let you know Monday/Tuesday what the after figure is and getting the map fine tuned for the mods done.

You dont get an increase in power by going non-seq conversion, in fact the two most powerful stock twins in the UK in the past have been Seq twins.

Why get rid of the first part of your power curve? other then getting rid of your rats nest and the 2nd turbo transition. A fully function twin turbo system should offer a nice smooth transition btw

A good map will see barely any discernible drop in boos t- mine is a smooth wave from 2k to the limiter. Pip@WGT is a mapping legend!

Most people do it because something goes wrong in the rat\'s nest and they can\'t fix it as far as I can see. I love the twins though. If something goes wrong, I\'ll pay whatever it takes to sort it and get my lovely low down pickup and response back.

as above though - is that 281 atf or hubs? if fly, that\'s not right at all!

Get it mapped correctly first!
As the guys above said....it will only change power delivery....why change what mazda spent of alot of time and effort developing!?

Had mine mapped, very smooth power delivery, and about 300bhp at 0.8 bar :D

It has been mapped my pip, I did have a noticeable drop in the curve at the changeover point.

But it was over 2 years ago when it got mapped. Recently it seems as though the car is slightly slow to respond at lower revs on the first turbo, so I was thinking of going non-seq to not only try and resolve that problem but also have smooth power delivery the whole way through.

Should my car be producing more than 280bhp then with the mods I have at 0.9 bar of boost? Pip said it was around average and what he expected?

I have a trust SMIC (might be selling actually), sports CAT (selling too) and blitz nurpsec Backbox.
I think the Metal Y-Pipe makes the change over much smoother...the 99specs had these, and you cant feel, or see and drop in power on the rolling road read out! ;)

ooh thats handy as ive got one of those getting polished up now ready to go on lol.

Maybe that will help then? I may go to that hayward north place and get it checked over....the lazy first turbo just may be my imagination lol.

Still think I may go for the non-seq though....hmm, we will see.

I got 326 fwhp from pip with just a full exhaust inc de-cat at the same boost (0.9bar), although pip set the boost at 0.8 as injectors were close to maxxing out. Also the transition is almost flawless and i only feel a surge in power instead of any drop.

Have since fitted an arc side mount and boost runs between 0.86 and 0.9 but any more and i need a new fuel pump and injectors as im seeing over 90% injector duty on a regular basis now.

Probably time to book it in for a remap matey

I will do, once ive got my efini y-pipe fitted I may invest in an uprated fuel pump too and get it all mapped/fitted together. Would it be a good idea to maybe increase the size of my secondary injectors too? hmmm

Not really needed mate tbh just a pump and a fpr will do the job fine

Uprated injectors really only comes into play with singles or uprated twins or high boost applications i believe.

BUT!!! if you are gonna be planning further mods in this direction then yeah mate why not
