I fitted up new wheels and tyres about 14 months ago but have recently noticed the outer edge of my front tyres are nearly slicks

I bought the wheels new, balanced and ready to be fitted so figured they would be fine and ive checked my previous wheels (which are the same sizes) and the wear pattern on the those is perfect?

I realise i cannot do a lot now bar getting new tyres and paying for a 4 wheel alignment but its just a bit odd that my old wheels were fine.

Is outer edges wearing a sign of tracking allignment? and does tracking drift out on its own? as i know for certain that they have not been knocked or anything like that.

The tyres were Falken 452\'s and tbh ill probably be getting some more as i found them very capable tyres.

Was it both outer edges Neil? If so that can indicate too low tyre pressure.
:Laugh LOL

If it\'s just the outside edge, then it\'s because of excessive toe in :)

If you are sure the car was aligned before, it\'s perfectly possible that the toe has been knocked out due to a pothole/kerb encounter etc. Or even just by component settling/wear.

Nah Rob its just the outside edges of both front wheels.

SiH,  Im 99% sure the car was alligned perfectly well before judging by previous tyre wear and also 100% sure the wheels havent been knocked or curbed.
The only difference between the wheels fitted is the offset which is now 10 units lower.

Going for an allignment and geometery check now and booked up for a fortnight\'s time.

Also will ask whether my tyres are still salvagable as the only have about 5k on them but the outer edge is pretty low ( pattern pretty much gone but over 75% of the centre of the tyre has got plenty left ).
If not ill not be risking it, as had a high speed blowout many years ago and dont fancy doing that again in a hurry.

Have a look at the tread pattern of the tyre

if the pattern is wearing evenly across the blocks then that is a sign of incorrect camber angles.

If however it is uneven across the blocks then as Si mentions this is due to the toe being incorrect, or as most know it as tracking. You will find there is a saw tooth effect created on the edges of the blocks.

on your tyres...have you rolled the edges? Do you like roundabouts??? Pressures do play a part in tyre wear...and reading it is an art form! Try working out Slicks!! There is less to work on with them.

Just to add, the cars do suffer from bumpsteer issues, and this will be hightened by an incorrect camber or a worn damper (<--- keeping TonyC happy :))
