I recall seeing a while back in scooby land talk of sticking a very small but powerful magnet by oil filter which in theory wood then  attract tiny metal bits in oil to keep it cleaner....
See a magnetic oil drain bolt on ebay for mazda & wondered if anyone had any thoughts on these?

my sump bolt is magnetic, i thought they all were?

Last time the oil was changed (just after running in new engine) you could notice very small metallic content on the drain plug so i guess they must work to some extent. :cool

anyone else confirm that so i dont waste £10+ on sumin i already have?

Yep - standard ones should be magnetic.  My old RX-2\'s was and it was a 1972 model!

.ps If you have lots of metal particles, you are in trouble already :)  it really is the oil filters job - hence change the filter when you change the oil.
Thanks,

bugger, i bought one of those off ebay last week, still havent got it yet either!

it was more like fine metallic powder than swarf. Understandable for a new engine, next oil change will be a lot cleaner i\'m sure.

You have to change the oil?  lol ;)
