Have you or do you know any one who has had a LPG Gas Conversion on a rotary engine.

1st can it be done,

2 Will it affect the power and tune ability of the car.

Iv know big Jags and Bmw to have them done but never the tuners world eg Japs

as i would love to use the car like you would a fast bike, just get in and drive and drive and:driving drive, Not stop every 5 minutes.

Thanks for any help you can give guys

Someone on here has an LPG 1st gen. I\'m sure he\'ll be along soon to explain!

Tim at RXMotors has an LPG FD conversion, he says it barely affects performance at all, and it is still pretty tuneable, one guy I trust to know what he\'s talking about is him.

I think Shaunwil has one as his daily too, seems to be pretty happy with it

I\'m the owner of the 1st gen with LPG. Had it running on gas for almost 2yrs and have been really happy with it. Its my daily driver and I\'ve done about 11k miles a year !

I\'ve ditched the petrol system completely and I am running an impco 300A carb on a 13b 6 port engine.

The FD is a completely different animal. I did some serious reading and the biggest issue is getting enough fuel into the system. There are 1600cc petrol injectors that are designed to run with LPG (running about 1300cc at 65psi) but then the problem is gas regulation at that level of pressure. Another issue I\'ve found is the ecu needs to be able to correct off gas pressure because you don\'t use a fuel pump. The Pressure of the gas is feed to the vapouriser effects the pressure of the vapour. A linkecu does have the option and Kev said that you can use a modulator on a haltech to trim the map.

The other issue is the tank and its size. For an FD you would want a similar size tank and that would be difficlult. The FB has a 25-30lt max fill on the LPG. There is a company that makes alloy tanks in NZ but the last time I talked to them they didn\'t have EU certification. They where better than the stock steel ones because they supported multiple pickups and more than approx 250bhp on a steel tank pickup (because of the safety valve pressure release level).

Did do a lot of reading into it :Giggle

Good place to read up about it is ausrotary. They do run turbos but mostly on FB\'s with a carb setup !

Surely the LPG tank will affect the weight and balance etc?

shaunwil

The tank in the FB is a 40lt tank (usually only 80% is usable) and is quite high up in the spare wheel position and it hasn\'t made it tail happy. Although a larger tank will weigh more.

How heavy is the stock fuel tank ??

Shaun, about how much miles in % you have done lower with LPG in place of gasoline?
Example: a Toyota Yaris with gasoline done 16km/l. With LPG the same street 14km/l.
With a ....el how much does it change? It\'s difficult to done? There\'s a post of your car?
Thanks! :D

The FB is a completly different animal. http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38194 & http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30129

I get about 18mpg which is about the same as petrol on the 6 port egi engine !

The FD conversation is here : http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46716

Now I read well.
Thanks a lot and great work done! :D

Lasy thing Shaun: have you lost much cv/hp/engine lost power in the conversion?

Hard to say really. The current engine config has never run on petrol !

It has effected some because its only 125bhp when it should be closer to 150(ish) on petrol.
