How do you get round the slosh factor??

Ok, I\'m planning on fitting a water injection kit to the FD, I have done some reading up and it would seem Alloy Tanks and Methanol don\'t mix so i am going to use a Plastic one.

The Problem is the plastic tanks don\'t have baffles/Foam inside so imagen you are giving it death round a Track on high boost (car\'s going to be set up with WI Fitted) and the water level drops to say 1/3, What is stopping the water sloshing from side to side when your going round corners quickly? Would this cause the Pump to pick up air? Possibly causing a problem?

I was thinking of Using one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SOURCE-HYDRATION-RUCKSACK-CAMELBACK-UPGRADE-YOUR-GEAR_W0QQitemZ160337725949QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_SportGoods_CyclAcces_RL?hash=item2554df89fd&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1688|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50 But i don\'t think the Methanol would get on well with it?

What is the most commonly used way round this??

shove a couple of big chunks of car wash foam into the plastic bottle???

this is a interesting thread, would be good to see the solution

Very interested in how you solve it. I looked at water injection some years ago but just couldn\'t get it to work reliably. The only thoughts that spring to mind that may or may not help you are;

1. From the datalogging throttle traces I was on 100% throttle for a significantly longer period that the man who was selling the kit at the time thought likely when discussions first started. By a factor. This meant carrying around a lot of water for a 10-20 lap race. Lots of water means lots of weight which means a factor for corner weighting and performance.

2. We couldn\'t get the water to atomise properly, and you seemed to end up with something akin to the statue of the little boy weeing when it closed. Couldn\'t get rid of this but suspect switching/kit problem which has probably been fixed in more recent times.

3. If you\'re surging water then I\'d treat it the same as surging fuel. Make up your storage container with a narrow cylindrical collector pot at the bottom where it will pick up from. Then the water won\'t surge until you are pretty much empty anyway.

4. Guess you\'ll have a one way valve in the line to stop the water draining back into the collector from the injector.

That\'s about the sum total of my knowledge I\'m afraid!

You can run an Alloy tank with a methanol mix but you need to run it at 50:50 otherwise it will, as you point out, corrode the tank.  I can supply you with some foam off cuts which you can stuff into the tank..

Grizzly

Ahhh, So if i use a 50/50 mix i could use an Alloy tank, would it still Corrode given time (i mean via the Meth not due to age :))

I have another question that\'s just cropped up, I think it may be a bit daft but i am presuming you need to use special water? (demineralised etc) i read if you use Tap water there is risk of Lime Build up in the Pump and jets? Is this correct? or is this only people that have used just water?

Hi,

Again, a few years back now, but yes clean water.

Foam will only take the edge of surge of course. Might be that\'s all you need, but unlikely if you\'re pulling G in a sustained corner.

could you not use a set up similar to one of the cheap plastic lighters? Where you have 2 channels but instead of running vertically you could go horizontal. So there would be 2 chambers in effect, an upper and lower one, seperated by a divide that has a gap in the middle, so the lower chamber would almost always be full and the top would be sloshing about?

cant you just stick a straw like tube in like a lighter and ull be fine

unless you roll over of course :P

Bobbit

i think they already do have the straws in them bud.

that should stop the pump sucking any air into the system.

if the sloshing he is on about is for weight transfer then i have no ideas

col_fd3s

foam would be 1 way, we use it in c-130 fuel tanks, mainly to stop fuel vapour build up, for well documented reasons.

it won\'t stop the water slosh, but it will lessen it, and only takes up around 4% of the volume of the tank

given the size of the output, and that it\'s located at the bottom, for the water to be THAT far up the side of the tall, thin tank, you\'re going to be either cornering harder than any 7 ever has, or upside down.  I wouldn\'t worry about it - I\'m sure if it was a concern, the water injection companies would have an offering by now...

Or make a cylinder tank so the slosh can\'t get to the bottom until there is very little left.
