Is this safe?

I bloody hate axle stands. I usually use the jack, and have the axle stands set just below the car ready to catch it in case the jack fails.

Anyway, is this safe? The stands obviously are designed to sit around the sill, but sills are usually made of cheese :(

cheers,
Carl

I only hate them because I\'m not sure exactly where to put them BTW.

I supported it with the jack inbetween the stands. Seems safer that way.

Looks ok But i would either put the stand under the rear Subframe mounts or under the Sill jacking points.

Personally, i really don\'t like that type of Stand, i prefer the pin type, but you will be fine as long as you leave the jack under.

that is plenty safe matey ;) but I would have the jack under her as a fail safe!
or the other way is to jack her up and put some concret blocks under the front wheels ;)

That\'s a clever idea! I\'d never have thought of that one ;)

I was OK in the end with the jack under there taking some of the strain as well.

There is nothing wrong with those axle stands...I have plenty of those down the workshop!

Stick them under the jacking points on the sills and have a tea party under the car...they will be fine!

The only dangerous thing about those axle stands is when you turn one upside down and the middle bit hit\'s your big toe :Hammer

Once any weight is on them, the lever can\'t be operated so they are rock solid as long as all 4 feet padfs are on the ground.

If you fold the tabs over...then this prevents this health and safety problem. :)

Yeah, but it says that in the instructions - who reads those?

My car was up on stands almost identical to that in a very similar place for 2 and a half months, while I basically stripped the entire underside. Removed suspension, fuel tank, stripped underside, painted, fitted lines, worked on engine bay, worked inside cabin... You get the picturte.
And I\'m not even slightly dead yet :)
