I am thinking about getting hold of some old style rear lights and converting them to the new 99\' look

This is the first time I have tried something like this so if there is a guide or someone can give me some pointers i would be grateful.

Thanks

^^^^^ search on here of FDUK ---- I know someone has posted up recently on how to do it #;o)

It is pretty straightforward to do, matey. I did indeed just bung a How To on it on FDUK a couple of weeks back, if you\'re on there?

Bobbit

Yep easy peasy. Basically remove the screws, heat the lights to soften the glue that holds them together (i used a bucket and the kettle), take out the lenses, spray them with a satin spray, put it all back together, after resealing the lights, i used sticks like sh.t (most people call it sealant). Done.
:Laugh LOL

Cheer guys, think I might give it ago to replace the JDM ones I have on her now

Thanks for the guides

What is the exact size of the circles on the 99\' spec lights? i have seen 70mm on this thread in FDUK
http://www.fduk.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13231

I cant find this how to but i still don\'t think they have made me a member yet as i still cant see the member only areas, just empty.

Anyone have the link to this guide? I now have a set of old style RX7 lights, (Bargain at £30 including delivery)

And what to get on with the conversion.  Cheers

Just recently done mine and found it much easier to put on the middle shelf of the oven on gas mark 1 for about 2-3 mins and keeping checking the temp of the light so i didn\'t melt anything lol :D

Did all my "circles" at 76mm

is that safe? Any warping or melting?

Do you have a pic of your lights so I can see what the size looks like :)

Cheers

Well obv you dont want to get it too hot, just warm enough to melt, the glue.  You can take it out as many times as you want and keep checking to see whether the glue is soft enough but it\'s up to you and what you are comfortable with.  I\'ve done this many times with lights over the years so used to it...

they look good though I think I will make the circles slighty smaller.

So now need to choose which method;

Hair dryer, Bucket of hot water or warm oven

Unless there is a better method?

I tried 70mm first but they just looked too small to be honest, the original 99spec are 80mm...

originals are 2 diff sizes, inners are 80 and the indicator is 76mm i think

oh and i found a sink with boiling hot water then giving them to my mum worked the best lol... that way if she broke them i could shout at her :D

Yeah, don\'t make the circles too small. I have seen so many people do this and it just looks absolute ....e IMO. Trust me, the best sizes are in that guide i linked to. It says 80mm for the red, and 75mm for the orange. Old pic of mine from 5 years ago
