Wotcha folks

As I am shortly to have my engine pulled and shoved into a new chassis, I figure now would be a good time to get some guages fitted to give a bit more feedback on what the car is doin...  thing is - which ones to go for (make/model as well as what type)

I think I\'d probably want:
*) boost
*) oil temp
*) water temp
but are there any other \'key\' measurements it\'s worth having showing?

I\'m also not sure where to put them - I quite like having the centre speaker (and besides, thats approx where the sat nav sits), i use the 2nd din slot for storage, i\'ve just had my A pillar trim flocked, and i can\'t see the point of putting them in the glove box lid as I won\'t be able to see them whilst driving.

I\'ve heard of people being able to swap out some of the stock guages (e.g. swap the stock oil pressure for a dual oil temp/pressure, etc)
 - is this practicle / cheap?

Any suggestions / comments / ridicule (if accompanied by the former) gladly accepted ;)

The SPA gauges look the business but are involved in fitting.  See links:
SPA - http://www.spa-uk.co.uk/
Fitting guide - http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/how-to/spa_gauges/index.html

I have recently had some of these fitted by Jason at Super 7 and it took him quite a while and he decided to do it slightly differently to the guide linked above.  They do look the dogs gonads though! :)

I\'ll post a pic or two when I\'ve worked out how!  Can you upload directly or do they all have to be already on the intaweb and linked on the forum?

Thanks for that - and funnily enough it will be Jas who does the fitting... ;)

I think pics have to already be on the \'web somewhere, and just linked to... but I could be wrong ;)

Jon, I saw your gauges whilst J was in the middle of fitting them all together, and it looked like a) a really fantastic idea and b) a total PITA to do! He\'s done a triumphant job of it, though, they look utterly excellent

EDIT: as for adding pics, you need to click "Post Reply" rather than the "Quick Reply" and then click the little paperclip for "Manage Attachments" in the little post toolbar. That\'ll then let you browse your files for the pics, and when you\'ve opened the ones you want, upload them to the site and add them into the text where you want

Found the attachment icon when doing a full reply rather than quick...

Edit:  Those are off the car, I\'ll get a pic of them lit up later.  I got the white versions with blue lighting and combined them with the white plasma gauges for the tacho and speedo. See http://www.visual-performance.co.uk/

Just been looking around the SPA site - they do look very nice - and not too pricy...

However, if i were being really picky, I would have preferred twin-needles rather than a digital read-out...

given the plethora of options available, I think I would probably now go for:
*) Oil temp / Oil Pressure
*) Water Temp / Boost
*) Fuel Level / Voltage

(i don\'t use the car that often, so having advanced warning that the battery is getting low will be very useful indeed - won\'t it Ada7 :D)

All SPA gauges come with a battery warning feature, they flicker the battery in there top left hand corner.
Ive got my SPA\'s in a center speaker pod thats the best place for them as A pillar pods i found restrict your view.
They are easy to fit, hardest part in fitting is getting them through the firewall as the plug is big that connects the pressure senders.
