I don\'t think thats too bad. You might get it a little cheaper elsewhere though.

For that price it must be just labour (if it\'s for the clutch too then bite their hand off).

It\'s about 3 1/2 hours for someone who knows what they are doing - perhaps 2 days for someone like me :Giggle

So that\'s about £48 an hour which is a very reasonable labour rate by todays standards.

If that\'s parts as well then that truly is a bargain.

Not to bad for labour only.
We charge £150 so not a mile out.

buy a pilot bearing for the inside of the flywheel "just incase" it needs changing when the gearbox is out :) the mistake i think ive made so my gearbox is to come back off. This is if yours requires a pilot bearing.

pdtaylor18

I totally agree with the pilot bearing for what they are worth.
I have dropped TII gearboxes just a few times and its a right PITA if you have not got ramps or a pit. Biggest problem is having enough room underneath, it will come off easy enough but trying to get it back on with limited space makes it a lot harder than it should be. If you can get the car high enough on axle stands then it is certainly worth doing to save you some money. I can send the clutch alignment tool if you need that. You certainly need all 4 wheels of the deck and as high as possible. 14mm spanners and sockets is about all you need for this job.

My car is currently receiving a new clutch and this is how high it is. Ramps on the front, and halfrauds axel stands at full reach on the back. I had to jack the car onto the ramps.

Pete do you need a specific clutch alignment tool to do the job? I ended up buying some  crappy plastic universal thing and i have no idea how it works

I\'ve got a universal one as well - metal job - not used it yet - but if your stuck your\'re welcome to borrow it - can run it up your way from work - it\'s only down the road as it were. When I refitted my old clutch to the new engine I used a socket extension and a socket that was just about tight in the hole (not too tight - you need to get it out again ;) ) - and aligned by hand / eye - seems to have been ok.

Oops - think I spammed someone\'s post - sorry - post was meant for Dthebuk !
