:Thumbsup! HELLO FOLKS,Im considering buy a 93 rex with 80000miles on it.the car is mint and is going only for a grand.the guy tells me the car would just die after it was warmed up and would then have to wait 20-30 mins before it would restart.this would hapn at roundabouts traffic lights etc.he spoke to a mechanic (who doesnt know the rotary at all) and was told it was probably the tips.since then he put the car off the road in his garage and has bin there for about 2 years. he has taken it for a few blasts and had no problems with it and has sat on idle purring like a kitten not missing a beat.im just looking or someone with a bit of experiance to shed a little light on the situation.any info would be much appreciated.thanks---the guy is unsure of any rebuilds

Timmy

good chance it is low compression.

RXAL

yes i have read up and this could well  be.im hoping to go and have a look and do a compression test sometime nxt week.is there anything else thats possibly the problem.ive noticed a few threads with the same prob but never fully finished

RXAL

also before i try and fire her up what should be done as car has been left to sit.plugs oil coolant etc

tbh if its a grand I\'d be more concerned about having a no rust and just budget in for a rebuild. If the cars got a really good shell interior then it sounds like a bargain. Also in the current climate you can pick up cars with a recent rebuild for around £4k which is an absolute bargain, so it might actually end up being cheaper buying a slightly more expensive car.

just my 2 pence :D
good luck!

yeh well the car is pretty much spotless inside and out and as for a rebuild id like to give it a go myself as im quite handy with a spanner and would be a good learning curve for me.it was if the compression test comes back ok then where would i start.when it comes to testing sensors and things then id be completely lost

When I had an FC the T2 model I had a identical problem.  Eventually after many trips to various mechanics a friend of mine who was a Mazda mechanic suggested changing the fuel filter which was completely blocked…car was fine after the change
