rear spoiler/ drag racing

a question for the drag racers. Ive noticed that some of you guys who have a gt style spoiler remove them to run down the drag strip with what iare the advantages/disadvantages to this or is it just wieght saving

I think spoilers keep your car stable when going round corners fast but on the drag strip it\'s just a straight line, so the spoiler will only cause drag and slow u down.
