CXome on guys, what do you all use? I\'m off to Wheels In Motion tomorrow :)
I\'ve seen the settings from Petit, but wanted to get an idea of what others run for fast road/track.
There\'s some disagreement about toe - some seem to recommend 0 all round but others say a smidge of toe in on the front?

Camber wise, I recommendations seem to be circa 1.2 on the front and 1 on the back - although this seems a little low to me? I  know the FD gains quite a lot of camber on compression though.
I was thinking of adding a touch more front and rear, maybe 1.4/1.2?

I\'m after a nice positive turn in then mid corner stability, perhaps tending towards slight oversteer rather than under, which is why I was looking at maybe running more camber on the rear?
It\'s mostly short track stuff i do so high speed stability is less important.
Cheers all :)

Hi Si,

What did you end up with? I was there last year and am booking this year\'s \'freshen up\' - important after i tore the anti-roll bar off the car at Rockingham. Very proud of that. When it let go it moved the camber/caster adjusters so i know mine is well out.

We went for a very \'safe\' setup last year, but i want to sharpen it up more this year, it was a little too understeery for me, more than when i got the car (which weren\'t recorded anywhere unfortunately).

I\'ll dig out the settings from last year when i get home tonight. Mine will also be down there saved under my name. I\'d be interested to know what yours is like and compare your settings with mine.

I am also going to lower it an inch or so all round then corner-weight it again. It ended up being raised when the new Teins went on (Re:Worx set it up as Tein suggested) which ended up being about 2 inches higher all round by my eye. I\'ll go for the \'arches 25 inch from floor\' that most people suggest, then corner-weight from there. How high or low are you?

Do you know if Tony has the corner weight set-up now? Last year he was going to buy it the month after i went so i had to get Re:Worx to do it. I\'d like to do it all at WiM.

cheers

Heya :)
Height wise I\'m down about 30mm over standard - unfortuantly the budget can\'t quite run to coilies at the mo, so I\'m on GAB shocks with RS*R springs, so no height or corner weight adjustment. I\'m not sure if they can do it at WIM.

Alignment wise I\'m running circa 1.3 degrees camber all round, and a touch of toe. Castor is around 6 degrees I think.
I\'ll check the sheets when i get home.

I haven\'t really had a chance to drive it unfortantely, as I drove it home in the snow then set about upgrading the fuelling, but should be able to tell you in a couple of weeks, when she should emerge a beautiful butterfly! :D

Sorry, i haven\'t replied to this. I now have a thread going in Reader\'s Cars on Pistonheads here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&f=47&t=634864&mid=57792&i=0&nmt=Papercup\'s%20RX-7&mid=57792

and am using it as a sort of \'development blog\'. From there, these are my latest settings (including, this Friday, the drop from 2deg camber on the rear as its too much):

rear camber 1.3 deg negative
front camber 1.3 deg negative
rear toe zero
front toe-in zero degrees, ten minutes - equal to about a 16th of an inch
caster 6.4 degrees

The car is now much more like how it was when i first got it (old suspension and unknown set-up). It has that initial bite and turn-in again, but its more edgy and is harder to catch when it goes. You still have to provoke it to do so though, so its still very \'safe\'.

With the previous set-up (last year\'s) it would initially understeer, then grip. With a light throttle you could push the front but as you fed in more throttle the rear would squirm and finally it would truly four-wheel-drift. A wonderful feeling. That is what has gone.

Not sure which i prefer. I didn\'t like that understeer at first, its unnerving at turn-in. But the adjustability on the throttle was great. But that turn-in bite is now fantastic. Mmmm.

All from a drop in ride-height and a little toe-in at the front. Amazing how you can change a car\'s behaviour with such small things.

Thats where i am at the moment :)

didn\'t in motion have some setups for various things, track, street etc..?
im sure they were in a car mag.. jap performance? n they setup a subapoo for track?

r does it differ for different cars depending on 4wd, rwd, weight etc?
(sorry, dont know much about this area)

not sure about setups, though i would say that Tony knows enough in his head to be able to dial out a certain trait; we did so with mine this time

i believe both this years and last years setups from my car are there, along with others

i didn\'t want someone else\'s setup....i already had one and we tweak it, it makes it easier to understand what change has done what; its also why i didn\'t change the camber last time as i wanted to see what the increased toe would do on its own

Oops, it appears i misunderstood the system at WIM and have got the camber settings wrong; it was one minute 30 seconds, which is one-and-a-half, which is 1.5 degrees.

Because of this forums weird \'soviet russia\' settings i can\'t edit the post above, so here are my actual settings.

rear camber 1.5 deg negative
front camber 1.5 deg negative
rear toe zero
front toe-in zero degrees, ten minutes - equal to about a 16th of an inch
caster 6.4 degrees

See my other Pistonheads blog-type post for more musings...when i\'ve updated it (I could go back and edit that one!).

Good reading need to look at my set up, seems to tram line really bad at the present and seems to heavy on corners. It drives like flat tyres any slight bump in the road and needs to be held? may be more wrong that just settings? I\'ll post mine up when I get home tomorow.( I have the \'Long\' track set up). Not having driven another FD I do wonder how much is \'me\' and how much is the car?
