Hi there,

My FD is virtually undrivable at the moment. It is really hesitant under any kind of load, any where through the rev range, even when pulling away (gently, by the way!). Any ideas what could be causing this? It starts perfectly, and idles very smoothly - and when revved at standstill (when warmed up!) it is also smooth. No noticable pipes missing or cracked etc. I\'m at a bit of a loss of what to look out for!

Any pointers gratefully recieved.

Thanks!

Same for me, but I had a rebuilt with big streetport..

Car idles normal, when stationary, I can rev it with no problems, but when driving it shutters and stutters

Check the plugs, could be as simple as replacing them

Could trythe plugs, but they are pretty new - don\'t understand why they would just go off? Car is bone stock, no tweaks at all.

Fuel starvation? Would a dirty fuel filter cause this symptom?

jackaleks

going down the dirty fuel filter direction, fouled injectors maybe? or a fault on the ecu causing fuel cut?

HaywardRotary

They are both on default by the sounds of it.
What ecu\'s are you running?

Similar issues with my petrol hilux.... turned out to be a plug lead breaking down!! have they been changed recently??? it\'s a cheep start & it\'s something that should be done from time to time!

When I changed my HT leads on my FC it made a huge difference, the leads are rather old, it might just be that the fuel isn\'t igniting as well as it could?

gyles18

if your on a stock ecu, dont you get that when the ecu switches over to limp mode?

DMDRIFTING

Check what voltage your getting to your fuel pump?

Had a similar problem and after running a new live to the fuel pump it never hesitated again!

neil_jdmr

Im seconding limp mode on your "bone stock" ecu fella,

Try disconnecting your battery and holding your foot on the brake pedal for 30 secs, reconnect and my money is on everything will be tip-top

mine is on a PFC. running OEM leads (will be repplaced with upgrades), plugs are next to new and fuel pump will be replaced by a Bosch 044

i had the same problem with mine before, after trying things like plugs with no difference, i cleaned the earth straps, re-set the ecu, and replaced the 4mm vacuum hose to the map sensor. im not sure what sorted it, but for me, it was a combination of one of the three! hope to be helpful, james

Hi there,

Yes, the car is standard and stock ECU. I did try the re-boot as described, and no difference. Went back to it yesterday. The car has been sat for many months without being really driven, to be honest no idea how old the petrol is either! 6months at least since I put any fresh stuff in. Tank was almost empty so I lumped in some 109octane fuel I had hanging around, then off to the petrol station for fresh stuff. Put in about half a tank and chucked in a bottle of injector cleaner. Low and behold â€" it seems loads better! Not 100%, but no severe bucking when the throttle is touched with a feather! Even dared to try WOT, and no hesitation. Fingers crossed the problem is sorted…that said there is always another one waiting, isn’t there!

unfortunately so!! GREAT NEWS FOR NOW THOUGH!
