Clutch Problem: Engaging Gears & Squeal at low RPMs

Folks,

I\'m assuming the worst, and am budgetting for a new clutch, however, any advice on what to check out before I commit to that is most welcome.

The symptoms are as follows:
From stand-still, first gear is difficult to engage, even with the clutch pedal pressed all the way to the floor. Pumping the clutch pedal a bit, appears to help (a little).
Engaging any gear at low revs < 1,500 say, results in a little judder, and a lot of squealing.
Once the car is rolling, engaging gears above 2,000 RPM is normal.

Checked the level of hydraulic fluid in the reservoir - at max, looks nice and clear. Similarly brakes feel firm and positive.

I\'m happy to wield a spanner and check things out... I\'m open to suggestions.
From what I\'ve learnt browsing the service manual, I need to look at the slave cylinder at the very least. What else can I check out without having to remove the gearbox/clutch?


I\'m also open to receive prices for a complete new stock clutch including fitting

do you have any clutch slip in 3rd 4th or 5th??

if you dont then the clutch is fine....
Could be the slave cylinder needs bleeding, or even a bent clutch arm!

and ,, add to the cracked fork and hydraulic issues ,, binding spigot bearing onto crank,, and lack of lube on the surface that the thrust bearing slides along when the clutch is operated
