Went to take the battery out of the Rex tonight to charge it up as it\'s dead. Once the battery was out, I obviously had to lock the doors with the key - unfortunately, the bloody thing snapped in the lock!! Arrrgh! :Grrr

I managed to lock the door with a screwdriver, so at least it\'s secure, but what the hell am I supposed to do now? I think I\'m right in assuming that I probably won\'t get the broken bit of key out of there. :2Rolleyes By the way, should mention that this is the spare key - which is obviously a bit, er, flimsy.

Now, I do have another key, but, it doesn\'t work in the ignition!!! It unlocks the doors/boot ok, but won\'t start the car. I thought this was simply because it was a new key, so I tried to rough it up a bit with some course sandpaper, but it didn\'t make any difference.

What do you guys reckon? Am I looking at new locks? Hope not!

This happend to me,the key snaped off in the door lock,i was luckey enough to get the bit out using a pair of small fine scisors....i just managed to get enough grip to pull it free, then took the broke bits to a key cutter who cut a new key.if the new cut key doesnt work take it back to the key cutter as its hard to cut a key from two halves,it took me 3 trips to get one that works.

hope you sort it:Thumbs-up

Happened to me too, although i was fortunate enough not to have it snap in a lock - snapped as i was putting it in. Got a key cut from the 2 halves - again, took a few trips to get it done.

Thanks for the replies... I\'ll have a go a getting the end of the key out of the lock, but even if I do manage to get it out it\'s actually twisted! So I doubt they\'d be able to cut another from it as it\'s not a clean break :(

There\'s some numbers on the spare so I\'m hoping that they mean something to Mazda in the UK (being a bit optimistic there!!), or Mazda Japan. Thing is, if I can\'t get the broken piece out, I still have an issue even if I do get hold of a key that will start the car.

Any ideas on how much a new set of locks would cost? Not cheap I\'m guessing!

Aparently Mazda UK can get keys cut - maybe I shouldn\'t be surprised but I thought it might be an issue with it being an import...

Anyway, I\'m waiting for a call back...

Mine snapped and i used the wifes thin tweezers to get it out, was only far as she was the one who snapped the key because she was cleaning the car because she was too drunk the night before and threw up in it! Oh, the memories.
:Laugh LOL

Mate, take the lock out, then you should be able to take the broken bit out, mine just fell out when I took the lock out of the door

Just thought I\'d post a quick update to this...

Finally got a key sorted from a place called Duplicut (//www.duplicut.co.uk) in Birmingham. I just gave them the number off the back of the drivers door lock and it showed up in their database - they were able to cut the key from that, and posted it out to me :cool

So, at long last I went for a drive :)

If anyone else is ever in the same position I\'d certainly recommend using them.

Oh, and I managed to get the broken bits of key out of the passenger side. Phew!

I used Mazda UK for a new key. Got the key code from the key and the lock barrel and the guy at my local dealers managerd to order me one!! £30 i think it was!!! Not bad for a genuine key from Mazda!!! New keys can cost upwards of £130 for new model cars!!!!

i snapped mine before whilst using it for the doors when i disconnected my battery and couldnt re-set my alarm, trust it to be during the coldest week of the year! i snapped one and twisted the other. i went to timpsons key specialists at the mall and they cut me one whilst i waited for £12! result!
