Hi every one,  im fairly new on here and to these cars so please play nice lol.:)

Basicly, i have gone and got myself a fairly nice egi gen 2.  Its got a few mods for the chassis/handling/safety side of things but im realy in need of some power now.

I had the car dyno\'d and it made 139.4 bhp with about 125 ftlb of torque. As far as im aware its only running an upgraded filter and a botched together exhaust (still fairly narrow) that frees up the flow a bit.

Can anyone give me some hints and tips on how to rack up some more power, realy around 200bhp+ but ideally 230-290bhp

Im on a tight budjet atm so the cheaper the better.  I have heard about porting and removing the secondary butterflies????? but im not sure on how this works or power gains etc. to be expected.

Any help will be much appreciated, my shoddy attampts at searching the forum didn\'t realy work.

thanks

to get anywhere near the kinda power you want, the engine is going to have to come out so you can port the thing. A Bridge port should see 230 and a Peripheral port port around 300. Tho theres more to it than just porting the engine. You\'ll be needing uprated injectors, a new fuel pump, im guessing more cooling as you\'ll be running hotter, a new ecu. There\'s probably a lot more.

The porting itself cost\'s around £300, but if you handy at machining shiny bits you should be able to do it yourself. TBH it comes down to how much you wanna do yourself. If you\'re on a tight budget id suggest selling up and buying a TII. They have 200 bhp stock and can be taken to 270 relatively cheaply. Also the added bonus of a turbocharged car is the extra torque.

dont get me a rong, an egi engine with a nice big port would be awesome, but its not the cheapest. Another option is to pick up an rx8 engine and box though for the price you could pick up a TII.

for now the most power you would be looking at is probably about 160ish maybe 170 with a pannel filter and very good exhuast.

oh, and welcome to the club :D

Hi there and welcome in :D

Most people with EGI go with a racing beat header that frees up the exhaust flow, they aren\'t the cheapest, but they are the best.

Are you going to be keeping it EGI? simply because you will have to heavily port the engine to get the power figures you are wanting.

Basically, the more fuel and air you can get in and out of the engine the better, so for the EGI concentrate on the induction and exhaust.

What are your plans for the car? drifting? dragging or track?

Once again, welcome in :D

Skifledanabit

quick butt-in question, which racing beat header? is there a link to the right one, as there seem to be a couple, according to racing beats main website there\'s one for carb\'d engines and one for fuel injected engines... confused!

the one for non carbed engines is made for a true dual system.

So id choose based on the rest of the system

is the bhp figure at the wheels or the fly ?

With a stock 6 port egi you won\'t see much beyond 190bhp without some major work.  It you want to see high power then its either the full PP or big ported 4 port block.

Another alternative is a supercharger.  IIRC Jackson Racing were doing them? (Or possibly Camden Superchargers)

Ok, I do plan to get a true dual system off of someone off here, we had a bit of a chat but he hasnt got back to me with a price, so we\'ll see

Mike Ancas\' book shows a car with a Paxton charger in it - fits nicely and he runs it at around 7-8 psi - so comparable with a TII.

I should think a Rotrex with appropriate pulleys could be made to fit - just lose the air pump :)

Thanks for the help guys, you have realy cleared things up.  I currently use the car for drifting, but i am looking to start competing next year so power is going to be an issue.

Can anyone give me a rough idea on the price for all the injectors/pumps etc. (just parts.)  I know its a bit like a piece of string but just a rough gudeline would be much appreciated.  I realy want to keep the n/a because its something not too often used.

thanks again

weld the diff, stick a decent exhaust on with a air filter to boot, and get your ass sideways, thats my plan as im no drift king and just learning. :) if an ae86/volvos/sieras etc can drift with so little power a n/a fc with do just fine.

jon_smith

yeah thats what i was planning. I got a bit carried away now,

i have a 3/4 cage, kazz diff, hydro handbreak, adjustable shocks and springs, apexi safc (not fitted but hopefully it will free up power.), drifty steering wheel etc.

Im deffinatly in need of power now because i find it really bogs down in 3rd gear and i want to start doing full bdc/edc courses.

dthebuk

ohhhhhhh is yours the red and black one?

i remember seeing it up for sale and the add said it had around 200bhp or something, a bit misleading. Seen a few pics of it sideways at the pod and it looks good.

If its bogging down in 3rd you could always pump up the tires a bit more, or use something skinnier.

Though if you plan to propperly link some of the bdc courses you could always look at at even more weight saving. There are 160 BHP AE86\'s that drift incredibly well. So maybe get your engine street ported 170-190 bhp, get an ally bonnet of a cab, remove EVERYTHING that you dont need, get some lightweight wheels, maybe replace the rear glass with something perspex. You could have a pretyy decent drifter :D

Yeah thats the one mate, i knew it didnt have that sort of power from the outset but i got a reasonable price considering the mods etc.

I dont think i can realy run more pressure in the tyres, im usualy running 55-60 psi cold pressures :Giggle

Im seriously thinkning about getting it ported but i just have no idea on additional costs etc.  I dont have much less to strip out either, don\'t even have a radio at the moment.  Perspex stylee pickup fc possibly on it way though :D

dam, im surprised they even run that.

Well you could take things out of the engine bay, the air pump for one, if it has ABS, you dont need that. Im sure theres a few extra things in there that you dont actually need.... who needs a battery anyway?

If your not doing the work yourself, or even if your doing some of it your self, id suggest giving a tuner a call. They\'l have most likely done it before
