can someone one tell e where the 3 outlet go to on the exspansion tank please thank you gaz

chris

If you are talking about the black tank originally bolted to the side of the intercooler it is the AST (air separation tank) there are 3 outlets, 1 by the cap that takes the expanded water volume to the clear plastic tank behind the rh front arch liner, the second goes to the the alloy filler neck on the engine, with the third feeding the base of the radiator.

NOTE: this must be filled to the top with water, as should the cap on the engine!

sorry ive made a mistake it has four outlets and its an aftermarket alloy one it has two bottom outlets one sid and one top. the side one goes to the top engine one the top goes to the plastic bottle and one off the bottom goes sumwhere else what is the extra one for thanks very much gaz

chris

are you sure it is a pipe as they usually have a piece of bar for mounting into the lower bracket recess

christmas

sorry for the hijack...so has the ast got to be full to the top??

chris

Yep, its a popular misconception, the AST and the engine mounted filler point should both be full to the top, the white plastic reservoir in your rh wheel arch void is the expansion reserve remove the cap and look at the plastic  dipstick to check the level in there.

hmm, no matter how much coolant i put in neither my filler cap or my ast is ever full to the top. the level likes to settle no more than half an inch below each cap and stay there.

will double check thanks very much gaz
